I have the LED dash on my 89. The fight side (eng temp, gas mileage) is now not as bright as the rest of the dash lights. I can still see it, but barely. Now if a light goes out, doesn't it completly go out.....why would it dim and how difficult to change out? Thanks

Hi, I have the same problem, I have a 86 but the one that is dimmed on mine is the coolant temp and volts. I would be quite interested to see why this is happening myself. The rest of my dash is nice and bright.

Sorry, can't help as mine appears to be working fine. I just wanted to ask at what mileage did these symptoms appear? Will follow with intrest as it is only a matter of time...

I have the same thing on my 1985. From what I've read, there are four bulbs that light the cluster (two on each side of the dash; one toward the top and one toward the bottom) and one of them is burned out. I'm guessing that that is what you have too. You need to remove the bezel that covers the dash, remove the small cover that houses the bulb, and replace the bulb. I've never done it, but that's what I've read needs to be done. Good luck! :)

Yea definitely sounds like a burnt out bulb. I had the same exact problem with my cluster on my 84 vette. Pretty simple job, just take your time doing it. The cluster comes out fairly easily. It took me about 45 minutes to do the whole job. I matched up the bulbs at autozone, but I'm sure other auto parts stores would have them as well. Cost about 6/7 bucks per bulb.

I also have a similar problem with my '89.
When experimenting I have tried shining a bright light into the light sensor (left of
clusters) and found all gets brighter. After this the displays are OK for a while.
I've suspected the dimming adjuster may be part of the problem.
Anyone else tried this of found the adjuster a problem ?

This is good timing.

On my last outing I noticed that the right side on my "89 was a lot dimmer.
As I drove it came back on bright. It has done this twice now so I suspect it will become a habit.
Bulbs don't go out and then come back on when they feel like it do they??

Any thoughts?

Dash Bulbs

The dash bulbs for the digital dashes are halogen #882. These bulbs are very warm when lit . Heat is not good for the dash cluster. What I did for my 86 dash was take out the dash cluster and take out the sockets for the four #882 bulbs and replace them with sockets for the 168 or 194 bulbs. These bulbs are just as bright but do not burn as hot as the 882's, plus they are not as expensive to replace.
