Dead as a doornail in Germany

I just recently redeployed from Iraq and my '00 sat in the garage the whole time, untouched. The battery was, of course, dead. I attempted to jump it with one of those cigarette lighter systems, and it almost worked. When I tried to turn it over, I heard the ticking sound for about 4 seconds, then nothing. Blew a fuse in the jumper unit. Then I tried traditional jumper cables... absolutely nothing. Why is that? Could I have blown a fuse somewhere in my Vette in addition to the jumper unit? If so, where would I find it and which one? I was trying to jump from a BMW... are the two not compatible (it's a German-spec car)? I'm in Germany, so I don't have Chevy dealers around the corner and I don't want to get ripped off by a local German. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hey-

I deployed to Kuwait a couple years ago and when I got back my TPI 1978 started- however, I disconnected my battery before I left! Now, when I spent a month in Korea.... yeah, dead. i would suck it up as the cost of doing business and buy a 12 volt battery from the PX/BX.

How are German cars incompatable for a jump? I will be moving to Germany in June so this interests me.

Presuming a negative ground 12-volt source, there should be no problems jumping. (Unless you mixed the polarity in attempting to jump start the car.) If you have blown a fuse, you will have to replace the fuse before proceeding.

Rkb1,
i never had an issue jumping a Vette with anything other than sometimes the other car's battery wasnt strong enough. They are 12V's in either car, so it should work fine.
Also: Go to your local Opel dealer, they are part of Chevy and carry most parts as well as having the right tools.
