Turned the key today and clickkkkkkkkkkk. Lights all lit up on the display. Has never happened - still original battery on '96. My question concerns the key fob. I decided to throw my keys with key fob onto the console because every time I'd walk in and out of the garage, my doors would lock and unlock as it sensed the fob in my pocket. I'm thinking that the fob and the computer were in constant contact and that drained the battery as that was the first time the keys sat in the car for about 8 days.

My question is three-fold.....

First, is it likely that the key fob was indeed the culprit as nothing else was placing a drain on the battery?

And second, is what care do I need to excercise in jumping the battery?

And third, can I expect it to fully recharge after I get it going?

Discount the FOB. It goes to sleep after 21 secs, wakes up when it's moved. Sounds like you battery, after all these years, gave up the ghost. When you jump start make sure the ignition key is in the "off" position before hooking up the jumping unit. The clock will place a small drain on the battery, but if it's in good shape will not drain it after 8 days.

1. Stay away from Exide (see my past thread)

2. You can de-activate the key fob. Stand next to the drivers door and preass/hold the 'door' button until the door locks cycle from unlock/lock/back to unlock. This will shut this feature off. Repeat it when you want to start it up again. I saved some $$$ when I bought my car because I thought it was broken when it turned out the last owner didn't know how to turn it back on :upthumbs
