Sorry for the "poor" spin from the ever popular NASA astronaut phrase.:Silly

But, the Red '92 Vette I bought from eBay has finally arrived! (Last night):dance

From my first assessment, it is in a little rougher shape than I was expecting, but for the price I got it at, still a good deal.:bu

Now that "she" is tucked away in my garage, I look forward to start all of the TLC work that it definitelly needs.;shrug

When I get a moment over the 3 day weekend, I'll post some pictures. And as I assess the flaws she has more closely, I'll be posting question for possible solution as well. ;help :beer

So now, instead of seeing me :w from my Nissan and me hoping others will :w back...NOW I EXPECT IT BACK!!! ;) :L

:v :CAC

wow another Ebay vette. i have been looking on there for a few years but just never had the guts do get one without a test drive i guess? so how good a price did you get her for? i like those new bumpers and the LT1 with more horses are sweet! good luck and hope the rough your talking about is just cosmetic!

Some of the rough is visual details...and others are mechanical in nature (seat motors and a headlight pop-up issue).

The price I got it for was $6400.

Still happy! :)

Congrats Stearnman. Mine had a few little things to be corrected as well. Still isn't a show car but I bought it to drive. After ten years of wrenching on my 70 Malibu
Convertible, I wanted something I could just pull into and out of the garage and drive. The headlight fix is pretty easy. The seat motor shouldn't be difficult but don't know how much anew one might cost. Good Luck and don't forget the pics or the wave.

Congrats. Depending on who you are half the fun is getting her into the shape you want her in. . .

Enjoy!

More Vettes in Denver- Excellent! :_rock

Congrats, Stearnman! You'll soon come to appreciate the '92. It sounds like the ideosynchracies it has aren't too major. Enjoy the zen-time getting her ship-shape and cruising around!

that sounds like a great price for any year vette that runs! how many miles on the LT1? my power seat didn't work either, so i just took th seat motor out for now and got manual track off, here you go eBay cheap. i mean only I am going to drive her so i got the seat were i want it!! wife don't like it but will get over it!

Thanks guys. Yes, I'm looking forward to me being the one to fix most of the things on her. As far as the milage on her...140500. It's a lot, but I do plan on working the motor over eventually.:bang

Congratulations!

My Vette was an eBay car, although it was close enough to go drive it before money changed hands. The small jobs are actually fun to do, it's the big jobs that aren't so special. :D

yeah i like working on mine too! feels good saying, no i did that. your right this day and age 145K is not that bad, you should have gotten it after most of the bad things were already done to keep her going, it just now your turn to carry on the torch of keeping her running. and like your i got mine to drive too, but my 86 has 85K miles so it wasn't much in its past. 92 has ALL the improvements our earlier C4 didn't have yet. i heard some were when buying a vette get the newest you can afford because every year there was a improvement.

Pictures!

I hope this works!

Hehe...the plate is digitally altered! :gap

Congratulations, great pics and is that the plate that you're going to try for?:beer :beer

Body and paint look good in the pictures. I motor and trans is solid you got a steal. The miles aren't that bad. These motors only run around 1700 rpm down the road. not like yrs ago when they ran 3000 rpm. compare revolutions turned to the old 60s cars it has only run about 90k on the motor. :upthumbs

Chris, Congrats on your new purchase! My 92 LT1 was also an ebay deal (2200 miles away) and things have been pretty good. With 140k, hopefully the bigger headaches on yours have been addressed already. Best of Luck. Mark

Thanks. I'm not going to get a personalized plate yet...most-likely in the future though.

It will need to be repainted eventually. The pictures don't show it, but it looks as though someone "keyed" it on both sides. The keyed mark runs from front quarter panel to rear and includes the door, driver's side mark in just the rear, but has scuff marks on the door. The nose was probably tapped a few times...it has paint cracks. There are 3 large paint chips on the front panels, as well. The clear coat is "lifting" in several spots. And who ever painted the targa top did a horrible job. In other words, I'm going to be very excited to make her look like new again!

The engine does have a "knocking" noise, but the tranny seems to be okay. The suspension is "rattle-y"...this is probably my first concern. My brother-in-law (mechanic) will be looking over the engine, tranny, suspension, etc and will give me the direction to go in as far as immediate needs of the car.

Do I feel like I still got a good deal? yes...definitely.

Thanks Mark!

Nice to have a Vette in Denver. Fall is one of the best times.
This is off subject, but I'm looking at a Vette in Houston, soo... how was your car shipped to you? Any idea what that cost? Open trailer/enclosed? Maybe even what company it was? Congrats again on your car. I've got a '95 and it never fails to put a grin on my face. Better'n Prosac!

I used DAS (Dependable Auto Shippers). The price I got was $680. About the price though...Going directly to DAS, my quote was $780...using the ad from eBay gave me $100 off. As far as the shipping aspects...I believe it was an open trailer (they will give you several pricing option...insurance, terminal-to-terminal, or address-to-address, etc.). Once the car was at the terminal (on a Monday), I picked it up at Extreme Towing in Aurora (end Terminal) that Thursday...4 days. Not bad.

Good Luck!

stearnman, thanks for the info on the shipping. It helped a lot. Have fun with
that car and keep the shiney side up
