I am going to order a differential rebuild kit but need to now the difference between Dana 36 & Dana 44. :ugh

I have a shipment coming in from Ecklers today, just waiting on FedEx to deliver as the parcel was in Sydney yesterday.
I have a 4+3 Borg rebuild kit and the overdrive rebuild kit.

As you can see, just working my way through the 30 year old driveline.

Appreciate the help.

Dana 35 is lighter; I think it's not quite as strong, although they'll still handle 340+ torque pretty well, like from L98, even with some HP mods.

I think 35's will let the axle leave the pumpkin if you have breakage, whereas the 44's won't leave the pumpkin, unless there's catastrophic breakage...

Probably some folks will ring in with more tech differences here..................................

Thank you

The question is moot because all 84s used the D36 axle.

It wasn't until 1985 that manuals got D44s.

Thanks again Hib,

I found this out after a bit of web surfing yesterday and checking the ration sizes that one of the Parts Suppliers had in their catalogue.
My HE3 is a 3.07 ratio and their parts listing only had a 3.08 ration in the DANA 44, the 3.07 was in the DANA 36.

Wikipedia also had a bit, but very light and no real answer.

I ordered the re-build kit for the DANA36 after finding out that the DANA 44 was 1985 up.

Also ordered my 4+3 rebuild kits as well.
