The dude that owned my 94' before me didn't take very good care of the rims so the brake dust it caked on, anyone have any suggestions for any good products or just any way to remove all that nasty caked on brake dust, without severely scratching the rims?
thanks
We use a spray on brake cleaner on the race cars; it cuts all the crap off in a few squirts. I will check the name of the stuff tomorrow when I get back to the shop.
if you got polished rims or unpolished clear coated rims you have to make sure to get the right cleaner or you'll seriously damage your rims. nothing like having a nice rim look all milky discolored after you clean your rims
There's this stuff by Wesley's you can buy from any auto store. It's called White something... I'm sorry I can't remember the name of it off hand, but it's made by Wesley's.
Be careful with Wesleys. Great for getting those letters white but not wheel friendly at all.:nono Mothers has a new cleaner called Billet. Brings wheels up real nice.:cool

To remove brake dust: Eimann Fabrik High Intensity or Eagle One Aluminum and Mag Wheel Cleaner, both used in conjunction with a wheel brush. Both products work excellent.
To polish: Mother's Wheel Polish For Clear Coated Rims
Your rims are clear coated, so proceed with caution. Do NOT use an acidic cleaner (a cleaner that states"spray on and rinse off). A big no-no. You want a cleaner that is not acidic - a cleaner that requires aggitation with a brush in order to be effective is what you want.
Here is the label off of the drum of the stuff we use. It is made by WURTH which is German/international.
If you get F3 racing on one of your Sat. channels, watch us in Madrid next weekend. All 3 of our (Racing-Engineering) drivers are World Champions in at least one category. After being pushed off of the track, (protest accepted and perpetrator spanked), and electrical problems in the last race, the boys are out for revenge.
Win, lose, or draw it’s going to be some great racing.
I'm in the process of cleaning the inside of my wheels. They are chrome Grand Sport wheels. It's so caked up, all the cleaning solutions i've tried is not good enough. Even using Brillo pads or steel wool. I'm using a small sanding disc made out of sandpaper to blast the crude off. Then I'll spray some clearcoat on it after that. They look shiney. I may actually buff it out also before the clear coat.
