Disappearing car door

A friend sent me this link. It's a pretty cool door too bad it can't really be used on the vette since the door is so long when you open it. Just thought you guys would enjoy seeing it.

A design like that if it were possible would eliminate burns from sidepipes LOL.

It would suck in the rain.The window rolls down before the door opens getting both the front and rear seats wet.

They could fix that by putting in a side visor that came out as the window came down. Still beats getting in and out of the car with a long car door when the idiot parks too close to

This is not a novel idea. I was just in Az at Barrett Jackson and they sold a early 50's Kaiser Darrin which was a 2 seat convertible. The unique feature of this car was that the door opened and slid into the front fender on a track. Hence a disappearing door. It was way cool.

BMW Z1

BMW also made a car with at least a partially disappearing door from 1988 - 1991. It was not imported to the US, but there is one on display at the Zentrum Museum at the BMW plant in Spartanburg, SC.
