Distributor Cap Problems

For the last few months, I have been having a problem with the contacts on my distributor cap. I first start noticing misfiring on acceleration. If I clean the contacts with sandpaper or scrape them with a file, it runs great again. I've tried caps with brass and with aluminum contacts. The same problem happens on both. The last new cap and rotor only lasted less than a thousand miles before it started missing. Does anyone have any ideas what would cause this and how to fix it? Thanks.

What year vette and what type of coil are you using?

It's an 89 L-98, recently rebuilt with TPIS ZZ9 cam, 1.6:1 roller rockers, bigmouth manifold, large tube runners, 52mm TB, ported plenum & MAF, Level V Prom. Wires are new. The coil is an Accel Super Coil that I put on several years ago.

You might try using an OEM coil and see if the problem persists. I know the MSD coil I used last month played havoc with my tach and I learned that their not always compatible with stock distributors. just my .02 Lenhat part of Georgia are you in?

Thanks for the heads-up, nyernga. I've been thinking of replacing the coil next to see if that is the problem. Thought maybe someone else might have had a similar experience and could enlighten me. P.S.- I'm located in SW Georgia, near Albany.
