Hey Vette Heads!
Let's share our dreams & schemes for our ideal motor build-ups/swaps.

Mine starts with an aluminum small block outfitted with forged 383 stroker set-up (crank, rods, pistons). Then Edelbrock aluminum heads, intake, and an RPM cam. I'd paint the block and heads chevy orange to keep the stock look and finish it off with stock accessories including the L-82 finned aluminum rocker covers to complete the factory look. Well, that's what I'm going for. How about Y'all?

Right now mine is just real nice and fast. I would prefer it looked really MEAN and NASTY. Something like a big roots blower sticking out the hood would be cool. We're all dreamers.

I want to put 400 horse to the ground and to do it naturally aspirated. Hmm, perhaps a ls2 swap

I'd like to get a hold of one of those 427 small block LPE tt engines :D
But sense I'll never have that kind of extra $$$$
I want to take a Lz1 and jam it in my 81. 560+hp should suffice for daily driving :)

but reality will be a bored over aggressive 350 SB

I love these kind of 'what ifs'. May I please have a ZL1 & I'll go find a 68-72 C3 to put it in. This is just a dream, right? Tom

Ya'll??

Ya'll??? You from Texas????

My dream machine HAS to get at least 26mpg on the highway and put at least 400hp to the ground AND be reasonably inexpensive to build. No big blocks or aluminum small blocks for me.

i am currently entertaining the idea of building an all aluminum 632 with 4-valve heads and turns 8000+ rpm. naturally aspirated 1000+ hp on pump gas should be fun, but not cheap. got to finish building the house first, but maybe next winter.

GM Performance Products ZZ383. 383 cubic inches of small block, 425 horse power, 460 ft lbs of torque and a GM warranty. Add TPI, install and lets go drivin'.

:Steer

I'm a realist. :D I just built my dream engine. It ain't gonna get any better for me.

well, a built 426 cross-ram hemi would be coo... only joking!!!!

i'd just like to find an affordable 427 bottom end to go with the 68-69 top-end i have!!
(heads are 68-69 passenger car 325-390hp, with M/T vave covers and aluminum intake) nothing sounds like a rowdy big block..

a full billet bottom end 406 with AFR 220's.. or a Motown 427 small block or....

the list could go on and on...

Gosh, that is one Beeaautifullll-'70Vette....

;worship Wow Len, she looks like a GM/Showcar to be sure; --although personally don't like the heavy BB, -but that takes nothing away from the absolutely gorgeous exterior... ~Bob vH

Although aluminum block would be good to lower the front end weight, I'd take what I got, a base 71 350 overbored 30 already with compression bumped up to 9.7 and add a more aggressive Cam and ported heads with a good flowing intake and headers/exhaust keepin it running good on the street with 93 pump gas, lots of chrome obligatory and the giddy up/good mileage would come from a rear end swap from 3.36 to 4+ and replacing my 4 spd with a tremac 6 spd. Come to think of it I think I'll put that on next winters to do list. And that is one great looking 70 but I beg to differ as early morning rides require caffiene in rather massive doses and without a cupholder I can't seem to shift, talk on my cell phone, pay tolls and adjust the tunes all at one time!
Completely off the subject, what size tires and wheels does the 70 have and how did you deal with any clearance issues?

I'm building my dream engine right now for my vette, drop in next spring:

383 ( actually 388) bored 60 over
6" rods
SRP forged -4 cc pistons
AFR 195 heads cut to 72cc
Small base circle high dur cam ( shhhh.... secret stuff)
Internally balanced
RPM Air gap intake
750 CFM carb
1.75" headers
HV Oil pump
little to no chrome, I like the "real " look

My goal is to keep the "stock" look........I can't wait to "waste" my first rice burner with my "stock" 190 HP (hee hee) '81 vette...........now fitting all this under the hood is a whole 'nuther ball game....... Oh it's only money, dear..... God help me when she finds out about the price tag :D

Actually what started this is that her 5.0 Ford piece of crap Mustang ate my lunch on the way home from work one day........wait baby.....I'm coming for ya! The only mods we did to that was a higher duration cam but dang that car is fast.

11.3:1 CR as calculated, expecting 450+ HP as designed, I'm hoping to push closer to 500 with tuning on the dyno, plan to change the rear gears, not decided yet as to ratio, waiting for actual dyno results for torque spec.

I'm also planning to roach the tires off the back end.....I need new ones but I'm holding off until I get this motor in.....can you say SMOKE 'EM if you got em ;LOL

Stomping ponies is the biggest reason I built power into my 76. Thinkin about a license plate as follows: PONIKILR :D
