Dumb Question #3: Are red 'vettes cop magnets?

Heh, I don't know if there's ever been a study done on it, but I have noticed every time I pass a cop coming down the other side of the road, I can see him checking something in his car (assume it is radar) the minute he sees me! :L

Funny, they never seem to bother when I'm driving my daily driver...

"Arrest Me Red" is another name for "Torch Red"

Silver seems to be pretty stealthy also.

Don't believe 6 shooter he's always been prejudice .The fact is that there is only one color that is stealth and thats Quicksilver. According to American Scientific the peril ascents in Quicksilver paint does not allow radar to detect it.This also is the fastest paint color GM produced .

I would never have believed it, but I will say this...I had my white 94 for nearly 5 years, never was stopped in that car. I traded for my Mag Red 01, and I got stopped within 28 hours of driving it off the dealers lot (no ticket).

That story about Quicksilver is Booooooooooooooguss.

I never got stopped in my red 91.

I did get stopped in my Quicksilver 02. No front plate.

There's some more data for the pile.

Only if they are doing something illegal.

That had nothing to do with the operator did it, Tom! :chuckle

My vettes are red and have not been stopped, but I think I am lucky as there have been some times I get a little lead footed. Last fall was doing about 110 mph in the high country and came up behind a very slow vehicle in and could not pass as we were on a hill. A trooper came over the hill after I had slowed down. So, I think if the corvette had been yellow, or whatever color, I would have been ticketed. Of course if anyone turns me in, I will deny it.

Actually Bill, it had nothing to do with me....:D I think he just wanted to have a look at the pretty Red Corvette. :w

Any color that is attractive to the eye can be a cop magnet. Red is one of those colors. No matter, all Corvettes are red -- the rest are mistakes (not original to me)!!

red neevr really got my attention as much as a yellow car did..... but i guess i would also look at it and say to myself .........who buys a yellow car;shrug

:rotfl

Our Corvettes look like they're hauling when they're parked. The brighter the color the more visible. So, the two combined factors I think are more likely than not to attract attention. As for torch red being more of a cop magnet than more subdued colors, I would say yes. Not sure if it's more of an attention getter than millenium yellow though. That color is pretty hard to miss. My white 77 attracted nothing. ;shrug

Honestly, I've had more cop interest with my dark blue 79 Trans Am. Never stopped for anything, but was sized up repeatedly when it was new and after 30 years of ownership it still grabs the interest of the local police and state troopers. Maybe it's the Smokey and the Bandit thing going on with them? One cop at a car show asked me where the cb radio was located. :D

Having been in the (ahemmmmm) business for 35 plus years, I can honestly say that for me, color, was NOT an issue. Although easier to identify (pick out), I can't say I focused on red ones. Actually, in all the years, I don't ever recall citing any Vette driver. My previous car, a C4, was Bright Red. I never was stopped in it. I now have a C5 in Magnetic Red II...haven't been stopped (caught) in that one either. Interestingly, my son was stopped and cited last evening while driving his '04 Red Dodge Viper vert. They left an SUV, going the same speed, untouched. :w
