I was noticing there were three different part numbers for our cars carb.

17081217 - Manual trans.

17081218 - Auto trans, Calif. emissions.

17081228 - Auto trans.

Does anyone know the difference between the three, and would you feel anything swapping between them?

A manual transmission carb will not have the stud on the linkage for the kick down cable, but that can be overcome. I have a 17081218 on my car that makes between 350-400 hp, so I'm sure any of these carbs can be made to work for any application.

Additionally, the automatic carbs have one additional vacuum type port at the rear of the carb that runs to one of the actuators that control the EGR valve and a function of the Automatic Tranny. A 4 speed car only has one actuator on the tab attached to the rear of the intake on the passenger side. I'll attach a couple of pics when I get home.
Sensie rebuilit a carb for me (and it runs 100% better) the carb I rebuilt was from an automatic vette, my vette is a 4 speed. You can just ignore the linkage stud for the kick down but you need to cap that port if you run the automatic type carb on a 4speed. In the reverse situation I don't know where you would get the input for the actuator.
Picks to follow. I hope I didn't confuse the issue for you.
