Hey guys, I am slowly putting the dash, etc. back together on the 85.

I noticed that the plastic trim (shifter console, center console, and gauge bezel) looked terrible. They had a dull scratchy look. I tried armor all, etc, but it just compounded the issue. In other words, it made it shinny, but the finish was still nasty.

So, I grabbed some rubbing compound and my buffing wheel with a foam pad. Very carefully I removed the trim panels, placed them on the floor and buffed the plastic. WOW! Short of some surface scratches, the plastic looks like new. The old dull fuzzy haze is gone, and the plastic looks fresh, bright, and smooth semi glossy black again.

I should have taken some "before" pics.

Just thought I would share!

Here is a pic,

It is very hard to see, as the interior is still in pieces.

I just want you to see how smooth and slick the center console is. Before it was dry and crusty looking.

That really is a good tip, who would have thought you could buff plastic with a compound. Looks great!:upthumbs

I find it hard to believe that the rubbing compund will work. Just afraid to try it.
