I thought I would pass along a solution for absolutely a labor free way to clean the nooks and crannies of alloy wheels. I am sure someone thought of this before but I used the old head of my electric toothbrush, after wrapping the brush body in a plastic bag ( I do want to brush my teeth with it again ), combined with spray Fantastik to clean the difficult to reach crevices in the alloy wheels. Not only was it fast it was effortless.
I tried this rather then simply discard the old head.

Now there is someone who is thinking!

Why'd you pick Fantastik over any other cleaner?

I used Fantastik because it has always worked well. I actually have brand new unopened special cleaners for alloy wheels but the directions indicate it is very caustic and I don't have a biohazard suit !

It is probably too late, but there is a special coating on your vette rims that protects it and anything acidic or basic will destroy this coating!

What kind of rims and what condition? That will have a lot to do with it!

Good Luck!:cool

My C4 coupe has the factory alloy wheels, there is some "crazing" of the clear coating but I can live with it. I do most of my own mechanical work as tools permit and refer to forums for advice on short cuts or solutions to difficult problems.

One tip I can pass on I discovered when I replaced the clutch master cylinder. The securing clip to the piston rod/pedal connection is up under the dash almost unreachable. Securing the clip is a two motion action which, because of the lack of accessability is frustratingly difficult... until I purchased a needle nose Vise Grip plier. I clamped the clip in the plier and in fifteen seconds had it secured. I had wasted untold time, sweating and cursing until I purchased the plier.

I was looking for a wheel polish that would protect my rims like wax protects paint but I could not find anything... Do you have any product ideas?

Also, I used black magic wheel cleaner (will not take off protective coating), and I will recomend it to clean your rims and make it SHINE! It was $4 + tax, and it was well worth it! I have never seen my rims that shiny!:cool

Give Turtle Wax ICE a try on those wheels. Leaves no white film. The more you polish the more it shines .Works great on exterior black vinyl and bumper trim.

Should I use the Ice polish or the tire cleaner?

Thanks! I gotta give it a try!:cool

I use turtle Extreme, Wheel Cleaner. (nano tech) om my standard sawblade wheels without any problem.:thumb

I started to use this product on my daily drivers winter wheels and it even removed the "kind of yellow" miss coloring that occurs after a couple of years:) and I thought that it was the clearcoat that was getting old and not that clear any more:ohnoes

Mothers paste

Try Mothers paste polish in the little plastic bucket.
A rough nap cloth (facecloth)and a lot of elbow grease produces an incredible shiney satin finish on the clearcoat.:thumb
