I have a hard glass rear bumper cover on my '76, and a flex glass type cover on the front, and I will tell you that the hard glass cover doesn't fit better than the flex bumper. The advantage with the flex bumper is that it is easier to "fit" to your vette. All C3 bodies were built on a jig, and no two are exactly the same. That is why GM used the Polyurethane. It was faster and easier to stretch the urethane to match the bodies. With either the hard or flex glass, you will need, more than likely, to "massage" either the bumper or the body. As far as waves in the flex glass, don't count on it, as my flex bumper does have more give than the hard glass, but not that much more.
When I bought my cover, I was told I wouldn't need bumper retainers, but I am going to put them in anyway to try and close the small gaps.
As far as tips, sand and file, a little at a time, and keep trial fitting the cover until you get the fit you like.
