Are there any negative effects that come from removing the egr from the car. I have a 1990 coupe.

It will throw the check engine code unless you have the chip programmed to ignore it.

From what I've been told, the EGR doesn't have much of an affect on emissions. It is an emission device so check the laws about that.:D

If I remember right , the EGR opens with vacuum so for preformance removing it has no effect because at wide open throttle there is little or no vacuum. What the EGR does is cool the combustion temp for better emissions. Removing it has no detrimental effect on preformance and is one less piece of crap to go wrong. Humm I wonder would that port be an easy place to sneak in some laughing gas? :D

I think there are actually places that sell intakes without the EGR or with the EGR port welded shut.

you may run into a pinging condition because the combustion temp.will go up

Why would it go up? Wouldnt it go down since it isnt recirculating the exhaust gases anymore :confused

Yes the exhaust temp. is hot ,but is also already burned. It is used to take up space in the combustion chamber ( instead of more O2 and fuel only less of it can now be burned) because there is now less fuel and O2 drawn in the combustion temp. drops. The EGR purpose is to lower combustion temp to reduce the oxides of nitrogen (O3 or also known as ozone.)

That´s right bro.:upthumbs
If you are running a cam with a bit of overlap (almost any hi-pro cam) you get the same effect with out all of the plumbing. Thunder sniffed cleaner than a stock 90 with the Randon Cats and 74219 cam.
The engine bay sure looks better with out all of the EGR and AIR crap.:w

Thanks for the info guys, i guess ill go ahead and get rid of it since everything else is gone. The block offs are cheaper than a new egr and i need a cuztom chip anyway.
