"electronic fuel control module"

In going through my 1981 GM Assembly Manual, I came across this Electronic fuel Control Module on page 359. I can't tell from the diagram where this sucker is. Do they mean the computer? (I didn't think so, either) This is my "stupid question of the day". Now, "Make my day" and tell me where this is at....please.:confused Jim

For 80 CA cars and all 82, it was in the well behind the driver seat. To be honest, I've never worked on an 81, so I don't know for sure, but that's the first place I'd look.

Jim here is what my shop manual says:

1981 Shop Manual
The fuel flow through the carburetor idle main metering circuits is controlled by a Mixture Control (M/C) Solenoid located in the carburetor. The M/C Solenoid changes the air/fuel mixture to the engine by allowing more or less fuel to flow through the carburetor. The Electronic Control Module (ECM) controls the M/C Solenoid by providing a ground for the solenoid. When the Solenoid is energized, the fuel flow through the carburetor is reduced, providing a leaner fuel mixture. When the ECM removes the ground path, the Solenoid de-energizes and allows more fuel flow and thus a richer mixture. The Solenoid is turned on and off at a rate of 10 times per second.

And as Hib said, the ECM (computer) is mounted on the front wall of the battery compartment.

From the photo in the Shop Manual it appears the Solenoid is located on the left side of he Carburetor, connection from the ECM

Thank you both very much for your quick replies. Its dark here now, but I will check this out tomorrow. Yes , the ecm is behind my seat, but so is "something else" behind the "shotgun seat" which I just remembered from stripping the interior a year or two ago to redo. The picture in the assembly manual looks similar to the ECM. Thanks again, Jim
