HEY GUYS...GREETINGS FROM A NEW CORVETTE OWNER..I JUST BOUGHT A 1970 427 4 SPEED CAR...THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT ACCORDING TO THE REGISTRY...THERE WERE NO 427'S IN 1970!
I CAN NOT LOCATE THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT TAGS...I CAN ONLY FIND THE DOOR TAG
HELP
WHERE DO I FIND THE TAGS SO I CAN TELL WHAT THIS CAR CAME WITH???
I PRINTED OFF THE CODE SHEET, BUT I NEED MORE THAN THE VIN # TO FIND OUT WHAT ENGINE, TRANS, ETC...
ANY HELP TO THE NEWBIE WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

THANKS
BARRY:cool :cool

Hi Barry,

Congratulations and welcome to the Corvette Action Center.

If you could, just do me a favor and unlock your Caps Lock key before typing. On the internet, typing in all caps indicates that you're shouting and not a very happy camper. :D Thanks!

I'm sure someone will be along shortly to give you a hand on locating those engine tags.

Thanks Barry. :)

I just tried to look at your link and its not working for me it may be becasue im at work, But the only way to know for sure what your car came with would be to check out the tank sticker and see if you have it.
Its on top of the gas tank on the drivers side.
all it is is the corvette order copy, its a piece of paper that is glued to the fuel tank
if its there that is a good piece of history not to loose
im about to head home and ill check out your picture to see what you have there...

It's probably a 454. If you look at the block right in front of the right cylinder head (passenger side) you should see two sets of letters/numbers. The larger set identifies the engine. The smaller, second set should match the last six numbers of the VIN#. If the last set of numbers match the VIN, it's probably the origninal motor. If you can give me the first set of numbers, I can try to identify what you have.

ENGINE CODES

Thanks to all you guys who have tried to help...I guess I have learned the most for all the information that is available at this awesome website! I found several websites with chevy casting numbers and have learned that I have a 1967 427, 435 hp engine in my newly aquired 1970 Vette....But the way I see it....who cares....I am really excited to begin this next restoration project.....Since the car only has 45,000 documented miles, I think for $ 4,500 I got a darn good deal...
You will see me around
Thanks again
Barry
