Engine code says manual but I have an automatic

OK, here's something that has me stumped. I have a 1981 with matching engine number to my VIN. The other code on the engine above that one ends in the suffix ZDD . I looked this up on the internet on several sites and the code indicates that I should have a manual trans. But I have the three speed automatic in my car. Is this a mistake or did someone actually convert a manual to an automatic? Would there be a bracket somewhere or holes to see to confirm if there was a clutch? Thanks

For the older C3s, the rear transmission mount & crossmember were different between the automatic and manual transmissions but I'm not sure for the 1981 models. Hopefully the local experts will wade in shortly.

ZDA and ZDC are manual. ZDD is automatic

IF you want to confirm this your trans should have part of your vin stamped onto a pad on the passenger side near the bottom.
