Have a 2005 Z51 with 6000 miles. Driving home from work on Friday and the display showed "Engine reduced Power", then died. I was able to pull over out of traffic while I figured what to do. I sat there for a couple of minutes then was able to start the car and continue--check engine light was on. About 2 miles up the road, it happened again. Same thing, let the car sit for about 2 minutes, started up and kept going. Another couple of miles, same thing. This time I was able to coast to a parking lot where I called for a tow. Its at the dealer getting checked out.
This is a real scary situation..where the car just dies while driving. Don't want to think about what could have happened had I been on the freeway, rush hour traffic, when this happened. I can't believe that some system would just cut out like that.

Has this happened to anyone? Any ideas?

Never heard of this happening before. :confused It sounds like the OBDII found a serious fault and was shutting the car down to protect it from serious damage. Did the gauges show any abnormal readings? I'd be interested in hearing what the problem was.

Good luck!

Gauges were normal at the time. 1st time, I was accelerating from a traffic light, 2nd - 45 mph in traffic, 3rd - slowing down for a light, and 4th - idling in a parking lot.
Still waiting for the dealer to call with the diagnosis.

What was your coolant temp? Have your fans been altered via a "tune?" Could have been a TPMS problem also...

Just heard from the service dept. They say its the ECM. A new one is ordered and should come in on Thursday.

Just picked up the car from the dealer. They replaced the ECM. No charge. Covered under the emissions warranty.

YEOW! To have that happen at 6000 miles just isn't good.
Glad that it was covered under warranty and that you're back in business.
That's got to be a real "butt tightener" when it happens.........
