I replaced a broken EVAP canister on my 1989 corvette. The problem is that the new canister does not have the one connection on the bottom like the original. I think this connection was for a fresh air intake to the canister, but not sure. The new canister instructions has a fresh air intake on the top, with a splash cap on it. The instructions advise to just plug off the hose that connected to the bottom of the original canister. When I pulled of this hose to plug it, it disconnected from somewhere going to the engine I guess. Its a rubber hose connected to the bottom of the canister and then becomes a " Y " rubber connection. The problem is that I can not find where to connect the two ends to leading from the canister going toward the engine. can anyone help thanks Mike

I was looking at my vacuum lines by the canister for leaks on my '89, when I found a hose coming from the bottom of the canister going nowhere and connected to nothing. My FSM says its an air vent, but doesn't show much about it. Mine is just a short piece of hose coming from the bottom of the canister and proped up in the corner by the frame. I looked all over for a place that it might have come off of, but found none. It didn't seem right to me that the hose would just lay there open ended like that. Being an air vent i would think there was something connected to it to keep dirt or water out of the line. I haven't had any problems in that area, so it must have come from the factory like that. Maybe someone on here can shed more light on it. I'd follow the instructions on the new one and plug the line to be safe. Wish i could be more help and hope someone has more info....Bill

thanks very much for the info. If you get the chance and feel like it, I could really use some information on where all the other connections go to and come from on the canister . Really hope you can help thanks again for the info Mike

maybe this will help

Perfect. This is what I needed. thank you so very much where did you find picture, I could not find one like this. I looked in childens, hayes, and FSM

I Googled "1989 Corvette vacuum diagram" and looked thru the diagrams until I found one that was
specifically for a 1989. It's that simple! A lot of diagrams and pictures are out there, you just have
to do your homework and make sure that what you're looking at is REALLY for the car you're looking
at working on.

I looked at my '89's FSM and I have a different diagram than what Navy shows. All the routing of hose are the same as his, but mine show a Air Inlet/ Drain which is on the very bottom of the canister. The FSM doesn't show a hose routing for it and on the car there is a short hose attached to the bottom that runs next to the frame. Its not connected to anything on mine. After looking all around for some place it came disconnected from, I gave up and left it alone. I haven't had any problems with it. I'm wondering now after reading this posting if it should be connected to something and I missed it. I didn't see a Y connector near mine either. I'll have to take another look at it.

Glad you got it hooked up and running good. The replacement canister is probably a different design than orignal, so maybe a vent/drain was done differently. Bill

I think the hose is just that, a drain hose, hooked to nothing. I went to chevy dealer and also had them look up new canister part and it was same as I bought. The new ones have the vent/drain connection on top instead of bottom. The new ones don't require hose connected to it because they have a splash shield. I have no idea where the extra hose I found came from. It could have been left over from when it was worked on before. It was obvious that someone had tried to patch the old canister instead of replacing it.
