F45 srtd

In my quest for a C5 I am wondering if the selective real time damping is a worthwhile option or just something else that could be a nightmare to figure out should/when it fails ( Looking at a 1998 that has this option ).
I am not a racer and am more likely to do more highway miles than city miles.
Any thoughts?

Can't really say whether or not F45 is worth it...but I do know that the shocks, if you need to replace them, are pricey. I had the FX3 option on my 94, the predecessor to the F45 system, and it was a rather neat option. Expensive, but neat.

There is a video, put out by GM, I can't remember where I saw it :confused, but I'm sure you will find it if you do a search. Anyway, it shows how the contact with the road is greatly increased by switching to the firmer setting, I was amazed when I saw the video. I have the adjustible on my '04 vert and I like it.

The 2003 and 2004 C5's got a different adjustable suspension called Magnetic Selective Ride Control (F55) which is significantly different from the 2002 and early C5s with the F45 Selective Real Time Damping system.

F45 was a ride improvement system that didn't do much for performance.

I've owned a '03 with MagRide and I recommend this system. I also currently own two C6's with MagRide. I'm pretty happy with the F55 system. The shocks are definitely pricey but I have not had any problem with mine.

The F45 system is an unknown to me so I can't really comment on them. If street driving is where you will use the car, F45 might provide a better ride than a base suspension and definitely a better ride than Z51.

If a '03 or '04 with MagRide were available, I would not turn them down.

Whether F45 or F55, you'd need to give the shocks a good look for oil leaks, etc.

I have the F45 in my 2001 and the F55 in my 2007. I like both. I autocross the '01 and the F45's performance setting really makes a difference. I've also lowered the 01 on the stock bolts and have no issues lowered with the F45.

A much improved F55 is installed on the ZR1 and Ferrari has their version which I believe is a licensed GM Delphi system. Yes, it is expensive if it breaks but such systems will become the new standard for sports and luxury cars.
