Does the Fan Clutch Assembly need to be upgraded if replacing cam, heads, intake, water pump, etc.? My Fan Clutch Assembly needs to be replaced no matter what and curious if it makes a difference if I go with an L48 with AC Fan Clutch Assembly or an L82 with AC Fan Clutch Assembly especially since I am in the process of doing a complete top-end rebuild/upgrade?

I'm not sure if you'll need an L-82 fan clutch, but I can tell you from much experimentation (including electric fans and flex fans) that nothing will work as well as a stock, genuine GM fan clutch. There's nothing more annoying than a noisy fan due to a clutch that isn't calibrated properly.

I have an aluminum radiator and a high volume water pump. I'm assuming the L48 with AC fan clutch will be sufficient for my project???

The question still remains, Which Fan Clutch do I go with? L48 or L82? I have an L48 Vette but I am doing a complete top-end rebuild.

The stock L48 clutch/fan will work fine. I replaced mine when I did my engine transplant much like you and used the same model clutch/fan as my old L48 had. Absolutely no problems.

Very cool. Thanks Bill. I will order one soon. I'll probably start a post this weekend related to my build with PICS.
