Forum discount received - Signal Mirrors!

*SECOND UPDATE*
We received the discount! Read near the end of this thread for details on how to get your mirrors for roughly 26% off.

Thanks folks,
John

*UPDATE*
I got an email back from the sales person at Muth Mirror Systems today saying that they would be willing to give us a group discount if we could show them some interest. He suggested a poll, so that is what I'll use.

Basically, they would sell them for $199 for a heated Corvette signal mirror kit ($70 off) and even less for a non-heated kit. Other accessories would be discounted too, but I'm not sure what the percentage would be. He also answered a question regarding electro-chromic mirrors. Below is his original email to me. So - all we have to do is take a YES or NO poll and we should get a discount!

Dear John,

Thank you for your continued interest and kind words!

If the vehicle has the self-dimming mirrors, then you will lose that feature when you install Signal® mirrors. You also can find this on our website in the FAQ section here: http://www.muthco.com/techsupport/carandtruckfaqs.htm

If there is interest from the forums that you frequent, we would be willing to provide the members a discount. Generally, based on the size of the two forums you list we would expect enough participation to justify a price of say $199.00 for our heated kit (which is normally $269.00). If you feel there is genuine interest from the members (maybe poll results or a link to a thread) you could share, please let me know and I will provide you with the information for the purchase. Normally, we would leave the buy open for 30 days and all transactions would go through our online store. If forum members are interested in our additional upgrades (http://www.muthco.com/products/smupgrades.htm), we could provide a % off of these too. (This offer would stand alone and the participants would not be able to additionally benefit from any special we may be running on our website. Participants would pay for the shipping option they choose when checking out on the website.)

If you have any questions or comments, please contact me directly.

Sincerely,
Chris Wedge

Subject: Couple of questions...

Dear Muth Sales,

I recently purchased and installed a set of your C5 Corvette Signal Mirrors. Thanks for the original product - I think they look great! To bad there is still 5 inches of snow on the ground, otherwise I’d be out driving around testing out these mirrors.

I do have one question, maybe two. My dad would like to get signal mirrors for his 2003 C5 Corvette and I believe he has heated, self dimming mirrors (I believe the technical term is electro-chromic?). Do you sell an electro-chromic, heated signal mirror kit? I noticed that you have heated and non-heated kits available for the Corvette, but I wasn’t sure if there were more options.

Also, my other question, I’m a member of various Corvette forums on the internet (mainly corvetteforum.com and corvetteactioncenter.com). I’ve posted a comment and my pictures on each forum trying to find out what people think of them. So far it has been mostly positive. My question is would Muth be willing to offer a group or forum discount pricing off of your standard pricing? If so, how much would it be? I guess I have a personal interest in this since I will eventually buy another kit for my dad’s vette, but I figure I could try to help my Corvette friends in the process.

Thanks again,
John"

You may have seen side view mirrors with the red flashing LEDs on various GM trucks and cars recently, but now Muth Mirror Systems came out with an aftermarket kit for the C5 Corvette. I've been bugging them for years to make them since they have kits for about 100 other vehicles out there and I think they're pretty cool. They function when you put your left or right turn signals on.

They are easy to install and only the glass portion is replaced. It probably took about 1.5 hours altogether on my C5. I wired mine up so they turn on when I apply the brakes too, not just with the turn signals.

I paid $269 for my kit, but since I have to buy another set for my dad's C5 I wanted to see if I can get a forum or group discount from them. I know they have done them in the past and shaved $50 or more off the price for forum members of other vehicles. I could give them a call to try to arrange something. Check out their kit page in the mean time. I've also composed a page of pictures and made a video of my installation on my own personal website. What do you think? Anyone interested?

Oh gosh, you HAD to rub it in didn't you? :) It's the first day of spring and we still have 4 inches of snow on the ground. Today all I could do was sit in the car and rev the engine... and dream of much warmer weather...

HAHA
yea- gotta give you guys up north hell every now and then! Think we had about an eighth of an inch of snow on Christmas Day and that was a first for snowfall in many many years for this place.

Worst I have to deal with is the dirt that cakes up in my tail lights every time I drive the C5.. (and the yellow pine pollen that collects on the C4 each day this time of year)

Rain

Rain,
Us "folks up north" have been entirely supportive of you Gulf coasters during hurricane season. And this is how you thank us? I quote P Diddy: Why you gots ta do dat?

Pardon me while I hold back my tears on the slopes at Breckenridge. I'll see you on the double blacks, my friend.

Fourjohn,
I think your GP is an excellent idea. Those turn signal mirrors are pretty cool. I've been behind many SUVs and trucks with those mirror signals, and found myself wondering why the Corvette never had it added as a feature from the factory.

I guess alot of people will like those mirrors, but they aren't for me. I think they look out of place on a sports car and belong on a SUV.

Really neat.... but will they work on the self diming mirror? (Which is the best thing since sliced bead!!)

Oh that's right, I forgot that some Corvettes have self dimming side mirrors these days. I have a '99 and don't have self dimming mirrors. I don't think it was an option until 2000 or later? Is that true? Are self dimming mirrors standard or is that an option?

In short, after looking at the glass and connectors, it looks like you would lose the self dimming feature. They do offer a heated or non-heated mirror, just not self dimming.

Don't know when they became available, but the self-dimming mirrors are an option that were also included in a package of popular convenience options. They are wonderful, especially when a tall SUV with HIDs is behind you! Those turn lights are sharp but I sure would not give up my mirror...just wish the passenger side was self-dimming too.

TenneC4 - Good point. My wife's van has a self-dimming rearview mirror and probably the only time I've been able to use one to see what they're like. I admit, it's a very nice feature to have. Turns out my dad's C5 has self-dimming mirrors too, so I may run into trouble and have to decide.

I just sent off an email to Muth to ask about the self-dimming mirror question. I also asked about the possiblity of getting a forum discount. Let's hope they come back positive! I want a discount on my next set of mirrors! :beer

Forum discount received!

My original thread and poll is found here:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?p=1550164204

I haven't seen much interest/comments here at CorvetteActionCenter, but I thought I would at least help my fellow members get the discount if even only a few are interested.

Thanks,
John

Chris from Muth sent me an email this morning confirming a forum discount! Great work members! Here are the details:

1. Heated C5 Signal Mirror kits are $199 + shipping
2. NON-heated C5 Signal Mirror kits are $165 + shipping
3. Go to http://www.muthco.com/products/kits/220-0190.htm. You can find both kits on this same page.
4. Add as many kits to your shopping cart as you want.
5. When you get to the checkout page enter the code COR324 at the bottom in the comments section. You could also mention that you found this special pricing in this forum.
6. Upon checkout you will find that the pricing to finalize your order is incorrect. DON'T WORRY. They charge credit cards by hand after the internet order is received. Your credit card is NOT charged when you submit the order. They will adjust your order to the correct price and send you an email confirimation showing the correct charges. Also, they are running a 10% discount on all orders this month (it doesn't apply to us), so even though your order shows a discount it is not the correct discount. Again, just submit your order and they'll make the corrections.

Lastly - we have 30 days to purchase our mirrors at this price.

Thanks guys. I will post this reply in a new thread also, so more people can see this and benefit from it.

By the way, I also added the "brake" feature to my installation. They have other upgrades too to make your signal mirrors do extra tricks:

Subject: Group Buy Details

Dear John,

Thank you for the link to your poll. From the initial response, I feel we can offer the members the special forum pricing I had mentioned in my previous email.

Here are the details:

Muth Mirror Systems is pleased to extend the special forum pricing of $199.00 (normally $269.00!) for the heated kit #220-0190-H and $165.00 (normally $219.00!) for the unheated kit #220-0190-0 to members who enter the code COR324 in the "Comments" section when the order is placed through our website www.muthco.com. Since our website will not calculate this special automatically, we will send a confirmation email confirming the group buy price when we process the order. Shipping options are available on the website and will have no discount. Any additional special that may be available on our website is not applicable to this special pricing. The group buy will run from 3-24-05 through 4-24-05. All other terms are the same as our normal online purchases.

Thank you for the opportunity to offer this special pricing to members of your Corvette forums! Please contact me directly with any questions or comments.

Sincerely,
Chris Wedge

Since I have the dimming mirrors I dont want to make any modifications that loose this feature. I do encourage you to see if we can get group discounts on other modifications though, like rims, super chargers and so on...

Corvettes :ugh
Chuck

I guess the reason I bought signal mirrors is because Muth came out with something truely NEW for Corvettes and unique enough beyond just the same cosmetic "chrome this" or "double-sided tape, stick-on aftermarket accessory that".

I recently received the latest Mid America Motorworks catalog and was slightly discouraged. After sitting through 5 months of winter the best NEW products the aftermarket world has to offer for C5's consists of three pages of variations of the same old things - things that have been sold for years. Here they are:
  1. A new satin car cover
  2. New C5 subtle styling (I do think it looks nice, but double-sided tape?)
  3. Yet another nose bra and side mirror bra
  4. Page 2 had C6 rims for your C5 (gee, that was only expected)
  5. Page 3 had floor mats
  6. DOT 4 brake fluid
  7. Protect-A-Top black fabric covering for your glass top
  8. HyperPAC performance computer (pretty cool, I wouldn't mind having one.)
And this stuff is expensive? $360 for a nose bra? $249 for a car cover? $130 for a piece of black fabric? Come on. I know, $165 or $199 might be too much for some to spend on blinking side mirror LEDs, but at least it offers a new "coolness" factor as well as some safety features - which I suppose could probably be disputed for years.

I'm not complaining about the posts here, it just seems like the aftermarket world is struggling to come up with something new or completely different to offer Corvette enthusiasts. Another example of what I would find truely NEW or added NEW functionality would be found here:

http://www.topdowntech.com/

Pop it in, do some minor programming, and you can make your windows go up, down, or stop somewhere in between. I can't tell you how convenient it is to have one in my C5. And it costs only $150. Now that is cool!

To the credit of the aftermarket industry - I know that you can't appeal to everyone, nor can you have success with every product that is developed, but for crying out loud - could we be a little more creative? Not everything that can be invented has been invented yet, contrary to what Patent Commissioner, Charles H. Duell reportedly announced in 1899.

Ok, I'll get off my box - carry on...

I didn't mean to upset you, but that's my opinion.

I do like the topdowntech add-on after looking at the brochure from the site you pointed out. I just may order that one. Someone else may not like that either but I don't care, it's their opinion and their car!!!

Chuck

I like them, but I am sorta against making my wiring any more complicated than it is. Just one more chance for a short.

I AM thinking about converting to HID lamps. I have to.

I got to get more light out front at night.

>>>>>truely NEW or added NEW functionality would be found here:

http://www.topdowntech.com/ you can make your windows go up or down<<<<

I like that toy. I have a convertable. I just may have to get that window valet, wiring be damned.

The other TRUELY NEW product I am waiting for is a titanium version of, or similiar to, the Borla Stinger. But all titanium... every componant....X pipe...everything....all the way back from the stainless long tube headers. 3" of titanium all the way back. A little louder and alot lighter than the zo6 system.

And how about AFFORDABLE titanium brake rotors?

I like the idea and look of the signal mirrors. Though I am not opposed to taking things apart on my car (Check my website), I have found that disasembling the doors for any reason usually results in a less than perfect and rattle free re-assembly.
