In the words of Vader: "This will be a day long remembered"

It was a wonderful sight seeing the long, enclosed trailer pull down my cul-de-sac. Inside was the ride of my dreams, a Silver C5. And when she was finally escorted off her perch, she was a jewel under an overcast sky.

I want to thank all the CAC members who lent advice on various topics; you all played a role in the final decsion that has resulted in a grin more permanent than Jack Nicholson's at the end of "Batman". I now can say I'm a member of this elite Drivership, and it still hasn't quite sunk in...I still can't believe this baby is sitting in MY garage!

I've yet to really take her out, since I'm just now learning to drive a stick, but I did go for a spin around the block, and I can feel the power of the Force underneath me. She's a 2000 Sebring Silver 6-speed, with HUD, Selective Real Time Damping, and body side molding. The body side molding was a must; that and the manual transmission is what took so long to acquire such a C5.

Pictures soon.

Congrats - Post pics when ya can!

I know exactly how you feel. When I took delivery of my 2000 sebring silver with HUD, Z51, sport seats, both tops, duel zone air, active handling, I thougtht I didn't deserve the car. It was more than I ever expected to own. It's really fun to drive, but I find my patience with tailgaters is greatly reduced. I usually take it out when I know that traffic will allow me my personal space. Wait until the summer when you can take the top off. You need to join a local club that will have coordinated drives on some country roads for a real kick.

Enjoy - Ron

I will never forget when I traveled down to my local Chevy dealer to pick up my brand new 92 Bright Red coupe. This occured in October 1991. I had ordered the car just four weeks earlier. I was told 6-8 weeks to take delivery. When my saleman called me, I was in total shock. When I saw the car for the first time, I almost fainted. I had never smelled a new car smell that strong. The black interior was flawless. The weather was already cold in Chicago, but that did not deter me from driving all thru the winter. I was so excited just trying to learn what all the dials and buttons did.
So, I can relate to all the feelings that are rushing thru you. And the fun is just beginning. The first time a fellow Vette driver waves at you will take you by surprise. If you don't wave back, don't worry, another one will be right down the road!
Enjoy your car. Drive safely at all times. And let us know about the good times you have in your ride.

BulletTime,

That is terrific! Is this your first vette?
Are C5's with manual transmissions hard to find?

Take care of her (I can tell you will), and hang on, spring will eventually arrive.

Congratulations! I know exactly how you feel. When I first got my car it took quite awhile to believe it was actually mine. I used to get nervous just being around it. It's funny, but just like somebody else said, I didn't think that I deserved it for some reason. I think when you've waited for something all your life and you finally get it, something inside you doesn't let you believe that it's actually yours.
Enjoy that car. I love that color.

Yes, it's my first. Since I was a kid, I've always wanted a Vette. Now, at 44, I can take care of her properly. Around here (Chicagoland and suburbs), 6-speeds are tough to find; this one came from Tennessee. Now if only the weather will cooperate for a while so I can learn to drive that stick before winter really sets in!

:beer Congrats :upthumbs

BulletTime,

Congratulations are in order! I know exactly the feeling you're going through, I've gone through it myself. Be advised this feeling will include sneaking down to the garage in the middle of the night just to look at your new Vette, to hit the keyless entry just to see the lights come on, like they're beckoning to you to come get in and go for a ride. You'll have that grin every time you give into this temptation!

To this day, I still do some of that- sneaking into the garage and touching it. I almost feel compel to apologize when I tell her we aren't taking a trip right then.

Enjoy this feeling, because in about four to six months, just as the winter is coming to an end, you're going to start feeling the itch to start making mods! :L

Do post some pics when you get the chance- we always like to oh! and ah! over each other's Vettes! And don't forget to wave!

:w

Congratulations

Well done:

I too have a silver 01 Vette. The feeling is awesome and one of the things you need to do is ENJOY it. Get out from behind your computer and get behind the wheel and GO!

Congratulations on your first Corvette. Good luck! :upthumbs
I've had my 2001 coupe for two years (this is my third Corvette) and I still go down to my garage at night just to look at it. Your Corvette sounds like it has every option. Do you also have RPO JL4 (Active Handling)? The manual 6 speed is lots of fun especially on the twisties. Silver is a great color (I have a silver Impala). It always looks clean and doesn't show scratches. My Corvette is Navy Blue. Looks awesome clean but dust shows up quickly and I have to use the California Duster before I drive it.
Enjoy the heck out of your Corvette!

The Corvette 6 sp manual is hard at low rpm, but when you accelerate and shift between 3000 and 4000, all of a sudden it engages with great authority and little effort. Great feeling!

Congrats!!! Too bad it's going to be a chilly one this weekend here in Chi-Town. Although it will be dry... so why not let her warm up while you watch the Bears CHOKE yet again, then go for a spin!

What part of town do you live in?

That is an awesome accessory/souvenir to get! Thanks for the link!

Congratulations! I need to advise you that you have caught an incurable disease. Once I got my first Corvette, I didn't want to drive anything else! But if you are going to have a disease, it is a great one to have.

Don't forget to wave at the other Corvettes.
