finally got covers off! They are now at the machine shop being glass beaded. Had somebody suggest to me to have them clearcoated. Anybody try this? I am not sure the clearcoat would stand up to the heat? Or should I just paint them with the "nickel lacquer spray bomb" that I got from Corvette Central?

:CAC Hey Paul, welcome. Good time to be doing that sort of work out there, eh? Still got 12 feet of snow? I have not touched my valve covers so can't offer much advice. I tend to stay away from spray bomb products though. Others will advise.
Good to hear from another Canuck!

There is a clearcoat designed for high-heat applications. I used it on an intake manifold and never had a problem and it looked great. It came in a quart can and was applied with a good spray gun. I don't remember the cost, but it was pretty expensive and I had to special order it from a local paint supplier. That was about 6 or 7 years ago so prices and availability may be better now. VHT does make a clear ( aerosol ) designed for high heat apps. but I have no clue how good ( or bad ) it is. It's available in most auto part stores.

When you get the covers back from the blaster you may be disapointed with the appearence. GM uses a heavy paint coating on them to fill in all the casting defects. When I blasted mine the only thing I could do was paint them with the factory color, powder coating wouild look great if you are gioing for a finish other than stock.
