First Aon refused to insure me because of the car having to many miles on it. Now here is Grundys excuse. Link

Thank You for contacting GRUNDY WORLDWIDE's web site. Unfortunately, we are unable to insure Corvettes model year 1974 or newer unless the vehicle is part of a collection of collector cars. Best of luck in your search for proper coverage on your vehicle.

It's too old... it's used too much... it's too new... it's not in a museum... etc., etc., etc...

JonM, When I bought my 90 I resigned myself to the fact that my on-line search & my ins. broker/agent were correct..."Tom if you think you will get cheap insurance for that car, you're dreaming!"... Yes those big name brand guys are picky, it's their game & they're the home team! The others on the vette were good with prices and terms, eg. Sneed, & a couple I found in "Driveline" but for me I went with Traveler's. They have my apt. ins. & my DD so I put the vette on the policy just to 'get it done now' & shop later. I'm still looking & have not come to a comfort level with anyone yet. My agent represents several of them also and Traveler's gave me not the best price but I can do anything except enter a race with the car. That's not too hard to comply with. I'm paying $1704.00 @ yr for a POS/DD + 90 ZR-1 w/full coverage. 500K/750k/150K w/ 1K ded. collision & theft plus an umbrella on house & car policies. The two policies cost me a little over $2000 @ yr. I guess some of the cost is the NY suburb penality. For me it works out to peace of mind that there is no fine print I didn't read & violate with my vette while I was driving it. I don't know if I would like to chance not "complying" and loose out or pay too much and not worry? I lean to the latter so I can pay attention to other cars while I'm in my vette. I feel I have a better a chance if I focus on good "road awareness & track vision" to keep me safe rather than going over fine print!;LOL Tom

I have both my 93 & 87 insured with Hagerty (sold by Allstate agents) No claims, so I have no idea about the claim service. Rates are reasonable though.:Steer

They are on my list...I sent them an application this morning...we'll see. I am even willing to give up my first born...after all its a Corvette. :lou

I don't know why I don't understand this. Are you talking about specialty coverage? Collector car insurance?:confused

I insure my Vette with the same company that insures my house (Farmers) and my other vehicles and I get a great rate on the Vette. Well, I think it's a great rate. I pay about $1300 a year for all my vehicles. :D

Don't even get me started on health insurance! :mad

BTW...JonM, I'm insured through Progressive @ around $900 per year. Good/ bad...who knows...but no problems getting coverage.

grundy told me the same thing for my 93 yet i've read posts that others have gotten ins. with them....that is bogus....jef try SNEED ins. they turned out to be even better !

good luck

My 96 is insured w/ Grundy. 30k agreed value. $453 a year. Guy

The '94 has been insured with Grundy for almost 4 years. Maybe the post '74 rule is new for them.

Good Luck,
Jeff

Not sure whats going on w/ Grundy. I have my '68 with them. 132.00/year, 15k agreed value, no one under 25 can drive it and it's not supposed to be used for regular transportation. Thats fine for it but I can't see them turning down someone, especially a Corvette driver as reputable as Jon!
I agree with the lawyer/used car salesman analogy. I have been insuring at least 3 cars and a house since 1988 and have never filed a claim on anything. These boys are hanging out drinking margaritas courtesy of me......it's a crime.....
Anyone wanna start an insurance company???
Maybe we need Rob to start a CAC ins. company. We'll just get someone else to underwrite the policies.

Lloyds of London? ;LOL ;LOL

I've got all my stuff (cars, house, me, etc) insured with USAA. Great deal if you can get it. All three cars cost us about $2200/year; we live within "city limits" and don't have perfect driving records. The Vette is only about $500/year, actually cheaper than the turbo Subaru it replaced. I can't race it competitively, but they don't have a problem with track days and driving schools.

I have my 88 and now my 71 insured through American Collector Car Insurance. If you use your car as a daily driver most collector car will not insure your car for an agreed value. American will insure most any Vette. They can be reached at 856-779-7212.

Good Luck!!!
Anthony

I just logged onto Grudy's website and filled in the free quote page and got the following quote. Location is a variable, I am located just west of St. Louis, Mo. I didn't have a problem, looks like insuring my Vette could be relatively dirt cheap.... :confused The only caveat I can tell is that you must have another car that is your daily driver, so that would rule out all of you where the Corvette is your primary car.

Hardlight...I don't want to bust your bubble...but untill you get someone to put real eyes on your application and gives you an answer, don't count your chickens.

If you didn't see my other thread I ended up with Hagerty

Try State Farm

I live in PA and have a '92 insured with State Farm that costs me $350 per year with full coverage and a $500 deductible on collision and comp., listed as a "collector" vehical. Must be at least 10 model years old and driven less than 7K per year (I think, milage may be lower).
