I hope to finally fulfill the dream of owning a Corvette but I am only beginning to research and learn about used models. Can someone give me some tips on how to go about this? I am currently considering a 1995 convertible, in excellent condition, Claif. owned with 29,200 miles and asking price of $22K. What can you tell me about the 95 models and are there some specific things I should know about? Thanks, K.W.

The 95 had a few problem areas but over all is a very good choice. (Yes, I had one)

The intake manifold on LT1s can tend to leak oil, check from under the car such as from a lift.

The leaf springs can fracture and peel (de-laminate).

The optispark is a vented version and much improved but can still be a problem.

Check the rear strut rods (The aluminum bars you see when looking under from the back) if the car was ever towed its a easy place to hook up, but the wrong place and they bend easy.

Water pumps can be an issue.

Over all those are not major issues.

Check out the Tech Center..lots of good info...

I have been driving the 95 LT1 6 speed Coupe since one year. It was around 33K miles when I got it. It came with new shocks and clutch. Areas of problems were the O2 sensors (replaced all 3 of them), some of the window seals (replaced 2 of them), and fuel pump (replaced it as well). No major problems in this car at all.

You can search the internet for factory recall orders and see if VIN of the car you want has been taken care of if any of those are applicable. There are also a few web sites that describes what and how to check a Corvette before the purchasing decision.

Two very good things about Corvette are (a) there is lots and lots of information in the web (CAC is an excellent source), and (b) spares are all around the place. Although I am far from USA, I had no problems finding spares here in Turkey.

I LOVE MY CORVETTE

:w

Been driving my 95 A4 for about 9 months and am very happy with it. No problems at all. Bought it with 30K on the odo and have since performed a few minor mods (SLP claw, Granatelli MAF tuned for cold air, airfoil, and a couple of Magnaflows to let it breathe better). Highly recommend this model year to you.

$20k will get you a LT4 car, or even a early ZR1. Shop around before you impulse buy, thats the very high $ for the LT1 cars.

Good luck :)
