Well I am happy to report on my investigation of a question I had earlier.

Would the performer RPM manifold fit under an L-82 hood?

The answer is a resounding YES!

By how much?

My guesstimate is approx 3/4" -1" all the way around, but I will give you guys hard numbers tommorow. It has gotten dark and I have some weird tuning issues to take care of.

The details on my setup

-Drop base wit edelbrock top
-2.5" K&N Air filter
-L-82 Cowl hood, down know exact size but would guess 1/2"-1".

I will provide pics as soon as possible.

Frank, Thank you for your ongoing research on the RPM and the L-82 hood. I really want to use the RPM but I am not going to change my hood. I bought a drop base on Ebay today. All the dimensions you have given are very helpful. Fred :cool

Next questions that I will answer

How much clearance do you have exactly (static and at idle) ?

What about under hard acceleration?

The engine bounces around in the engine bay. I have only done static tests. Hopefully tommorow I will have these tuning issues resolved and will provide answers to the above mentioned questions.

Data will be provided by UTEP alumni ruler and Play-Doh!:L

Maybe you need new motor mounts ... just like the rubber in the harmonic balancer/damper ... mm's get mushy with age, heat & solvents ... perhaps a rubber-to-steel mm bond has separated ... quite common.

Read once where a wad of aluminum foil works well too ... haven't tried it.

I still haven't had a chance to check just yet.

I had to take care of an issue with the heater core hoses and tuning the engine.

BUT I did have a chance for some spirited driving and I did not hear anything out of the ordinary i.e. the filter housing hitting the hood.

I don't know when I will have a chance, but I would guess towards the end of this week along with pics of course.

Stay tuned!

Is there a difference in the hood clearance between a L82 and a L48 hood. I think they are both the same but I might be wrong.

There is a big difference between the L-82 hood and the L-48 hood.

The L-82 hood has a cowl. In other words the center part of the hood is higher than the stock hood or the regular L-48. But not by much. Maybe 1/2"-1".

The Performer RPM manifold does not fit under the stock L-48 hood but since my car had the L-82 option I had some room to play with. How much was what I was trying to figure out.

Hope this helps.

Frank

p.s. I will provide pics

Thanks Frank that answered my question as I have thought of replacing my Torker Manifold with a perf RPM but didn't know if it would fit. I guess I would be better off with a reg performer manifold.
