Hi everyone,

Tomorrow, I will be receiving the ZZ4 Hedman Headers I ordered from Ecklers, and after I powder coat them stainles steel I plan to install them myself; however, I am having a difficult time finding the tool to flare the pipe ends that will meet with the 3" collectors (5/8 lead pipes "D" profile).

Any ideas where to purchase the tool, or do I have to remove the front "Y" pipe and take it to a muffler shop????? ;help

Has anyone also ordered and installed this header in their C3?

Reducers (flared) for 3"colelctors to the desired pipe size are commercially available.

You can also remove the triangle connection and use a slip tube. All you need is a pipe expander to widen the exhaust pipes.

Twins,

The header kit came with the reducers, bolt, gasket (head), gasket (triangle), and bolts for collectors. Do I match the reducers to the collector? Does it require a doughnut seal to keep both flanges (collector and reducer) aligned? ARe the rducers wleded to the Y pipe?

The creducer has a flared end that meets up with the collector, wich has a flared end too. They're flared to the diamter there is slightly larger so they can clamp the gasket in place.

You just bolt the reducer to the collector, both have those plectrum (triangle) shaped rings and there's a gasket in between where the 2 meet. Those connections however are difficult to get completely leak free so I removed mine and used the slip over method. The reducer welds to the Y-pipe so you need the correct internal diameter reducer for your system.

I took my pipes down to the local Midas dealer. For $10 he flared all of my pipes so I had a perfect fit.

That sounds like a good option! Other than placing a clamp or welding the reducers, the flaring option seems more straight forward. Now I just have to research the price for the flaring. Thanks Twins and Gary :beer
