Was browsing through some threads last week and came accross the one about making use of the wasted ash tray space. Thats what I love about this forum, there are so many good ideas.
I particularly like the one about taking the guts out of the garage door opener and mounting it in the never used ashtray.
Right after I read the post I went into my workshop, cut a piece of 1/8 Lexan sheet to fit the ashtray opening. Pulled apart the opener and reworked the circuit board to relocate the push button and LED. After spray painting the Lexan sheet flat black I secured the circuit board to the backside and mounted the relocated pushbutton and LED on the new panel. Using a few strips of velcro, I then installed it in the vette. Total time about 1.5 hours not including the time for the paint to dry. Check out the attached pics.
