This is my first Vette (Yea for me!! :lou ). Is it just me or does anybody else have a problem at gas stations. Everytime I stop to get gas I pull in way to far and have to back up closer to hose. I just can't seem to rember that the darn opening is just behind my shoulder.

Another thing... Since buying my baby I quit smoking. Not just in the car but for good. I'm not about to make another rolling ashtray. Has anybody completely removed the ashtray and lighter behind the door in the console? Thats a nice little space for a MP3 player or something.

You'll get used to it. Give it a little time. As for the ash tray, I've left mine in to hold change, but the creative folks around here have done various things to that space.

Welcome to the Corvette family!

And Save the Wave!

For some stupid reason, I thought the filler was behind the rear license plate. I have no idea whatever gave me that idea. First couple of trips to the gas staion, I'd have to back up also!!

Congrats on giving up smoking!!! :upthumbs Thats my next step.

There's a thread on the forum somewhere, where someone removed the ashtray/lighter like you mentioned and put in a sattelite (XM?) radio. Whoever did it, did a fine job.

Welcome to the :CAC !! Congrats also on your 1st vette. As the saying goes," You never forget your first!".

Crooze,
Welcome to the Corvette Action Center! And congrats on the new acquisition!

As far as the gas tank situation goes, my continuing error is forgetting to open the center console and push the button to release the fuel door while I'm still sitting in the car. I end up having to reach back in through the driver's door and push the button, and invariably, the door swings out and spanks me for my bad memory.

I have not personally done the mod on the ash tray area, only because I find the ash tray makes a good place to put coins for toll roads, or when I have to go to the self-serve car wash. But I have seen pics of people putting in GPS systems... do a search, there's some really cool ideas out there.

:D Hello and welcome to the Corvette Action Center......congrats on the Vette.....also for the end to the smoking problem......congrats and enjoy @!!

learning curve?

Hey! I got flat out lucky when I was going through the car the first evening I had it. The last place I would have looked for the release (gas), was in the center console.

I have five cars between work and family and I can never keep em' straight regarding which side. I just usually tilt in the rear view mirror and scan the side of the car for a filler door as I'm pulling in.

Just gettin old and easily :confused .

Crooze,

As others have already said, welcome to the world of Corvettes and the Corvette Action Center!! And a very big congratulations on quitting the butts!:_rock

Crooze,

Welcome aboard!

I think in the c6's, they finally moved that gas filler lever out of the center console- and rightly so! It still gets me every now and then too.

Okay- Everyone make note: Bluecoupe suffers from halitosis. ;LOL

I too quit smoking after I bought my C5 in Sept 2001 the weekend after 9/11. Did a nicotine patch for a week then forgot it one day and never put one on again. Haven't touched a cigarette since. Sure helps keep the inside of the car cleaner; smells cleaner too! Congrats! Smoked for 35 years; I could have afforded a vette sooner if I had never started smoking!!!!

Thats too funny, The exact same thing just happened to me. I've been using the patch and Saturday I forgot. Hasn't been much of a problem since.

Thanks everybody for the warm welcome!

Isn't Pewter just the CLASSIEST color for our car? I love it on the Corvette! I think that this color shows off the angles on the car better than any other, though I am sure there will be disagreements with that, judging from some of the other "color" threads herein......The only downside is that about 2/3 of the GM and GMC pickups are the same color, but none of them keep it as shiny as you and me, right? And by the way, watch your a*% during dusk as other drivers just do not see this color at all!!! Still and all I would not have any other color...........try Meguiar's NXT wax on it....it will darken it a bit and make it look a foot deep (and a lot better than all those pick-em-ups)......

I quit cold turkey on my first try last year after 33 years of smoking, but I still dream about smoking. I still dream about sex too, but I'm married

Welcome to CAC and congratulations on the smoking cessation.

I took out the ashtray and used the space for a nitrous progressive controller, switches, purge button. Psssst, Pssssst ... ZZoom ZZoom. Something else in there now after the supercharger went on.

Congrats on your first Vette. Now that you quit smoking you can probably enjoy many more Vettes to come.

As for the unused ash tray, I installed my garage door opener in its place, very convenient.
Check out the attached pic.
