I have recently purchased my first vette, 2001 Mag red coupe, 6 SPD. Therefore, I am still in the learning mode. Last week I filled the Gas tank full then I squeezed another 50-75 cents in and later that night I went out to the garage and smelt fuel vapors and started looking around the vette. I found fuel leaking from in front of the passenger’s rear tire just inside the frame area. I thought that this might have to do with putting the extra fuel in? I drove the car for about 10 minutes getting on it a few times to use some fuel up, when I returned home the leak had stop and did not return. I did look for the obvious such as fuel hose leaking ECT. Today I top off the fuel but shut the hose off before it stop automatically I was afraid that this might happen again. Has this happen to anyone

Hi there,
While fuel leaks should never occur, please, when the nozzle shuts off, dont top it off.
Do you have any check engine lights on?????
If not, it may have been some residual, which followed the pipe to the passenger side, as I have seen this a few times.
Remember, that the tank system is sealed, so if there is a leak, the check engine light will come on, and you will have to take it in for service.
The diagnostic for leaks takes place when you are between 1/4, and 3/4 on your gas gauge.
So, please keep us posted, and if you see this again, have it checked.

I found out that My fuel leak it is coming from a blue plastic valve sitting on top of the right gas tank. I took the access panel off in the right rear tire area and then blew air in the tank and fuel came rushing out around the bottom of that blue valve. Do you know what that part is and is there A o-ring under it and does the tank have to be dropped? I have a parts list on CD and I cant tell what this part is I'm suspecting a vent valve but not sure. Oh and now I have a check Engine light so that system works as advertised.

Hi there,
Please reference the attached diagram.
This will show the vent fitting at the top of the passenger side tank.
Depending on production, yes, you may be able to just replace the vent fitting, otherwise, the oring, or the hose may have to be replaced.
The box shaped area is your evaporative charcoal canister, for storing the vapors from the tanks. At the 7pm position, from that, you will see the fitting.
This should be checked, or the oring, or the tank for distortion.
I hope this helps, c4c5:hb

Fuel leak again

Still having problems with fuel leak. Dealership is telling me I need a new tank because the parts on the tank do not fit proper. My response to them is how are you sure it’s the Tank and not the other parts? They insist that it the tank and the parts are in perfect shape. I’m not paying for it but I’m still not sure this isn’t a bunch of bull. Any suggestions?

I would listen to the dealership, and allow them to do what is necessary for this to be repaired.
I have had tank issues before, so its not that it does NOT happen.
Please keep us posted as to the progress, please.
