Fuel rail cover cleaner?

I wonder what I should use to clean my plastic fuel rail covers.
I have a c4. The one cover is noticably lighter.

I don't want to use too much liquid cleaner under the hood as I can not
risk moisture getting near my optispark distributer. Otherwise, I'd
be tempted to dry liquid dawn% water.

I know I don't need to say ,don't use Armorall. Someone on the forum, I think Ken posted about a product he found at Ace Hardware.

sothpaw - I have cleaned my fuel rail covers by removing them from the motor and washing them in the kitchen sink with regular Dawn dishwashing soap and warm water. Worked very well.

If you are looking for a quality dressing for them, I highly recommend 303 Aerospace Protectant.:)

They just pull off, so take them off like the others said... wash them down good, and any standard protectant will work... Armorall is actually very good to use under the hood for a couple of different reasons, so I suggest it.

A friend of mine uses nothing but Pledge to clean his engine compartment. :eek

By fuel rail covers, I assume you mean the black plastic covers? If so, try one of my favorite products:

Back to Black

:L Not plugging my favorite, eh Rob? I thought everyone knew that Forever Black is the best product on the market for renewing a black surface. :D

Thanks,

I will pull the plastic covers out and clean with dawn followed by either Back to Black or Forever Black.

Is there anything else I should be using for rubber trim or interior plastic? Other articles talk
about "dressing" but don't name names. I've used my Meguire's tire black on plastic on
other cars but I want to know what I'm doing on the vette!!!

Do you all use engine degreaser or simple green on the metal parts?

Thanks a heap for your recommendations of Back to Black and Forever Black!

Personally, I don't believe in using engine degreasers on today's engines. In my own humble, unprofessional opinion, there are too many sensitive components in and around an engine these days and degreasers can be very caustic.

I use Simple Green sprayed on a cloth rag and wipe down parts of the engine. HOWEVER, make sure that you go over these parts with a damp cloth soaked in water afterwards. Simple Green is also caustic and if left on, can destroy the finish on some materials.

As for rubber and plastic trim, I use Meguiars Rubber and Vinyl Cleaner and Conditioner in the tan spray bottle.

plastic parts

Rob,

I understand using Meguiar's rubber for rubber trim seals (rear window seal, targa rubber over the door, etc), but I thought Back to Black had me covered for all plastic? Sounds like there are some plastic parts that you use Meguiar's on and some Back to Black. If so, can I ask you
which parts with which product?

--I put a lot of weight on experience, so to me you are the professional in a sense!!

:) No problem. Personally, I only use Back to Black when I want to try and restore the black color on hardened plastic trim pieces or get rid of wax deposits on black plastic trim. The best example is the black door handles on a 1990 Corvette. They have a slightly rough surface and sometimes wax can get caught in there and is difficult to remove. I just dab a little Back to Black on them, follow the instructions on the back of the bottle and poof.....no more wax and shiny, black door handles come back. :)

For the care and protection of all rubber components, I normally use the Meguiars Vinyl and Rubber Cleaner and Conditioner.

303 Aerospace Protectant is an oustanding product on vinyl and rubber. Provides UV 40 protection and leaves behind a very nice matte/factory fresh appearance. Great stuff!
