well even thought it was almost 100 degrees to today here in maryland, i walk around a junk yard today on my way home from work. and i actally found a canister that looked pretty much the same as mine. i think it was out of a older s-10, looked under so many hoods its hard to say?? but one thing i did notice mine was alot heavire too! i just had time to start it after i got all the line back, and i didn't smell any thing yet??

oh yeah it only cost me $5.75!!! got to love used some times!!

Oh man... I really hope it works for you. :upthumbs

That would be a great save and good info for anyone else that may run into this problem.

yeah but not to many people like running around junk yards any more??
when i took the canister in with all the lines hanging off it, i asked guy how much. he said you tell me, so i said $5.00!!!
i was amazed how many diff ones there were in just the chevys i was looking at, what was chevrolet thinking making so many diff sizes?? most were turcks and vans which were huge! i think i got lucky or would have go to another junk yard!

well i still think it helped some? i still smell gas but not as bad, and i think the L98 beast is running smoother with the other canister. guess i'll have to keep looking! well i wanted a project to get me out of the house!!

Next, I would look into those lines at the gas tank. Didn't you say it wasn't looking to good there??

yeah, but how do you get to them? i took the gas door off, and removed the rubber boot some time ago so i could keep checking for leaks. to get to those lines i don't have to lower the tank?

Well, that access is mainly to remove the pump assembly from the tank. I wouldn't know where to start if you are going to thoroughly check the lines. As one of the other posters has said, it could also be the solenoid.

Good luck in your continuing search.

You should drive it a couple of days and then remove the purge valve to check for fuel in it. If there is dump it out and get a new one. $12.00 or something. Then after a couple of days with the new one, check it again. If there is fuel in it too, then it's the solenoid.

how dose the purge value come off? unscrew? if there gas inside whats it telling me is bad??

It's the valve that is right before the canister. Not on the canister. {hell, I could be wrong in calling it the purge valve} It has three lines going into it. Just take it off the hoses that are attached to it and dump the fuel {if any } from it. I found that if you overturn the side that has the 2 nipples on it the fuel will come out faster. At the most you'll need 5 mins.

o.k i know which black deal you mean, it looks like the one on the canister but is in the with small vacuum lines. thanks!
