G87 Ring gear

1988 Z51 4+3 Coupe black/black.
While deciphering the options on my '88, in addition to the (G44) 3.07 ratio, the sticker indicates a G87 8.5" diameter ring gear. Is this a heavy duty version or such? If so, what is the standard ring gear diameter for a 1988?

I appreciate any input.

I am pretty sure this is in direct relation to the different rear end. the 3.07 performance axle upgrades you to the Dana 44 rear, which is a much better unit. All you need to do if you want to order parts for your rear end is specify Dana 44 and they will know what you are talking about.
 
He has a 4+3, so the Dana 44 and 8.5" ring gear are standard. Even if he'd had the auto, a 3.07 upgrade would still be a Dana 36 (which has, IIRC, a 7.87" diameter).

8.5" ring gear is standard in D44 rear axle

which is standard in all manuals from 85 on

Hey Guys-

Mine is showing to be 3.33 ratio, and 8.5 inch ring gear... so from what you all have said, its a Dana 44...

My question is... will gears out of any Dana 44 (i'm looking to change ratios) work or do the gears have to be out of a Corvette rear??
