I'm a proud owner of a "new to me" 1966 Corvette Convertible.

I've already gotten lots of help from this forum, via the archives. Thanks!

I currently have the entire interior gutted for replacement/repair.

Sanding and painting the fiberglass dash has proven fun (lots of paint, too many fisheyes, re-wet sand, try again, etc). Finally found hints on how to remove the silicon from armor all, etc. Starting to look much better now.

One thing I haven't found was anyone who attempted to restore the faces of their gauges.

I am going to purchase new faces for my tach and speedo.

I prefer doing/trying everything myself at least once ;-)

Does anyone have any hints on how to restore the small gauge faces by oneself?

Has anyone here attempted this before?

Mine are slightly faded. I could by new ones for about 80-90 apiece, but would like to give it a go a restoration first.

They all currently seem to work fine.

Thanks in advance.

tigernut,

Welcome aboard. Glad to have you.

And, I too will be watching the responses to your question with interest.

Tigernut, if your fisheye problem continues you may want to go to your local paint supplier and ask for "Fisheye Eliminator". Have fun...

The faces are stencil painted on. Tough to do without the right "stuff". You might want to consider sending the gauges out to a rebuilder for a cosmetic rebuild. Corvette Specialties of Maryland does excellent work. There are many others. I don't think I'd attempt this myself. Better off left alone IMHO. Chuck
