Was on ebay this morning and found a NOS front 81' emblem...bling bling!
Think I will take the one off of mine and preserve it..if this is what the originals
going for now!

I've heard of them selling for as much as 100.00 but not 300.

this one has been listed for several days and hasn't had any hits!!
if I wanted a nose emblem for my 81 that bad I'd buy an 80 and paint it!!!

If I'm not mistaken, the ebayer making the post for the $300 emblem is the same outfit trying to sell 81 seatbelts for $785/set.

Guess he's rich and thinks everyone else is too.
I will remove mine from the vehicle and sell it for $300........

There is no reproduction that I know of but maybe they took the plastic inserts out of an 80, then refitted them into a refinished 81 base. I paid $50for a new one at Carlisle 3 years ago but finding them now is like buying chicken teeth, very difficult.

Just a simple question- Will an 80 model emblem fit into the exact hole pattern on an 81 vehicle?

I ask this b/c after owning an 81 for 2 years, looking at 80 & 81's on ebay DAILY, I can not tell you the difference in their appearance.
I know I'll get a lot of emails about the precise differences, but to me the difference is too minute . If something happens to my 81 emblem, was just wondering if an 80 model would fit without any mods. good day.

Mike, Thanks for asking I've been wondering the same thing...

I have the Assembly Manual for 1981 so if someone could provide us with a copy from a 1980 Assembly Manual we can compare

I was told by Ecklers to use an 80 and it would fit the hood the same as the 81 but the black plastic base is a bit smaller I think and on an earlier post someone said they used solvent to remove the old plastic insert but had to sand down the 80 insert to fit the 81 base. I didn't try it or have any first hand knowledge but this is what I have read before someplace.Chuck

80 vs 81

80's have chrome outline.
81's have a black outline
That's the difference as I checked it out 18 years agao.
Bought an 80 and used a black permanent marker to color the edges that were chromed.

Got them on bay for $22.00 each.
In GM boxes.

This guy is such a schmuck! I just looked on ebay, and he bought 8 of them @ $50 each, and the one they have listed for $300, 'the only one I have' :eyerole The 80's are a little bigger, as the chrome edge is thicker than the black on the 81. I don't even know if I'm putting one back on my car when it gets repainted, same with the back. The new bumper doesn't have holes for the emblem, don't know if I want to put them in either. There will still be the one on the gas door though. I mean hell, if you don't know a Corvette when you see one, I'm gonna tell you it's a Ferrari!
