GM Confirms Five Suppliers As Interior Integrators

DETROIT - General Motors Corp. confirmed today that it has chosen five suppliers to manage the development of interiors on certain current and future vehicle programs.

Johnson Controls Inc. has been picked to manage the interiors for the next generation of minivans and mid-size cars, Lear Corp. will manage the interiors for full-size cars and full-size trucks, Magna's Intier Automotive will manage full-size utilities, Venture Industries will manage the H2 interior and Visteon will manage the next generation small car interiors.

The five interior integrators will have performance responsibility for the entire interior, including managing all other suppliers. GM will retain final control over sourcing decisions.

"The suppliers are assuming the role of manager but we are maintaining our role as customer," said Bo Andersson, vice president for Worldwide Purchasing, Production Control & Logistics. "Our focus will be on overseeing the integrators performance and ensuring they meet their quality and launch targets."

Andersson added that GM hopes the change will make its interiors more in line with what consumers want as well as helping the company lower the costs associated with producing the interiors while also increasing quality. More information on General Motors can be found at www.gm.com
So what does this mean for the C6? Because the Corvette is considered to be a member of "MidLux" (Midsize Luxury division), the interior of the C6 will probably be built by Johnson Controls, Inc.

Thanks for the info Rob. I guess GM is trying something a little different so that things can change a little.
