That's right, just think about it, they seduced us with the new C6 with 400hp and then they come out with a new Z06 with 500hp. Well at least you were king of the hill for a couple of months and now just another vette.

The Z06 with 500hp is going to be a screamer and the people in the know will step out for one. What a waste of money but thats show biz.

And to make matters worse somew C6 owners actually paid over sticker price while Kerbeck in Atlantic City, New Jersey is discounting them by $1500.

This tells you something.

Alan

alan, king of the hill? Back in , say, 1967 there were many flavors of Corvettes being sold. You could get the 435hp and be king of the hill. Or you could get a 400hp, I believe there was a 390 hp 429 with a single 4 barrel, then there were the smallblock flavors. So here's the concept for you during this history lesson: You don't have to be king of the hill to enjoy your car. The absolute best times of my life in performance cars have been spent at dusk or after dark driving back rural roads alone. Me and the car. Nobody to be better than, nobody to race, nobody to look down on because they only had the small block while "I" had the tripower, and NO women admiring me or my car!!!!!!!!!! The guy in the smallblock had his AC on while the 435 guy sweltered in a car with too much engine and not enough radiator. GM suckered us....oh I get, your post was a joke, you're kidding! OK that's better I take back my comments. I expect the owners of new Z06's will be friendly toward those of us driving the fastest base model vette ever produced and we'll be friendly in return. Another bit of advice: you should try being satisfied with what you have especially if , like a nice Corvette, it is a material possession that 99% of people who want it can't have it. Last lesson: The mere existence of the new 500 hp Z06 will lend tremendous additional status to your 400hp C6. Think about it. The C6 platform is strong enough and good enough to take 500hp with few mods. What does that say about every C6 on the road? It says they are all TREMENDOUS cars who now will have a stronger older brother to look up to and respect. Thanks GM....it's about time after all these years of waiting , that you are treating the OLDGOAT to the pride he felt back when NOTHING TOUCHED THE VETTE. THAT DAY IS HERE AGAIN. I won't personally own a Z06 but I can be proud of it just the same. So there. ps...what was the "waste of money" ....new C6's? Probably one of the best performance cars ever produced considering what you get and what you pay.

The Good Old Days!

Yes l remember those days and you are 100% correct about the heat coming into the cabin, but those days were different. The 300hp/327 was a fantastic driver and never broke down and was cheap to fix. No computers! My biggest mistake was with my old 68, l could fry eggs on the dash and to drive around with the windows open. And the radio was never turned on because between the open window and the sound of the engine itwas useless.

Ah, the good old days.

Alan

p.s. I already forgot about why l started this topic anyway.

$2,500.

There shoudn't be a " special " model. One reason the C-2 was so popular was because you could order a high performance engine in any model and thereby make it desirable. Did Chevy forget the Z-R1 already ? An LS-7 on the option sheet for the Coupe or Convertible would be a hell of a lot better in my opinion !

I love my '71 LT-1 and there are very few cars I would rather have. It's very hot in the summertime (black interior doesn't help), it's a small block, it doesn't handle like cars with built with today's technology, but it is one hell of an awsome car that draws more than it's share of attention. It looks fantastic, sounds even better, and is a lot of fun to cruise around in.

By the way, I don't think Kingman meant anyone any disrespect by his thread. I think he was pointing out the fact that a lot of C6 buyers may have waited for a Z06 had they known the hp would jump 100 horses.

Yeah, but you have to admit, all cars these days are computerized and they're all expensive to fix. Some are less so than others.

As for driving around with the windows down and the radio off...hell, I drive my Corvette with the windows down and the radio off. Not because I can't hear the radio when I turn it on, but because the sound of the engine and exhaust is too glorious to spoil with garbage from a radio. ;)

Yes those were the days!

As much as l admire the new tech in the C4's, C5's and the C6's with all of the creature comforts and added horsepower nothing gets me upbeat as an early C1, C2 and C3 in minto condition.

And yes to ride around with the windows down and radio turned off listening to the engine is pure heaven.

The cost of a C1 and a C3 in minto condition is probably more expensive then a C6 and even the new C6-Z06.

But we cannot live in the past and must admire the new C6 even though they blew it with the front lic plate bracket.

The only thing l'm pointing out is that when you bought a vette in the past you had the choice for that model year to put any engine on the build sheet into your vette. Today they put you into a car and then without knowing, you find out that if you waited a couple of months you could of had the car of your dreams for an additional cost. Yes it will not be cheap but at least you would have known and made a decision if you could afford it or not.

Alan

p.s. Deep down l love every vette made from the first one to the C6-Z06, even my old 76 with the L-82 engine (225hp).

Wow. Couldn't have said it better myself.

I do (or did) this with most of my cars. The only legitimate exception was listening to a few seconds of Rush's "Red Barchetta" when I was lining up at the track or at the auto-x.

"...fire up the willing engine, responding with a roar... tires spitting gravel, I commit my weekly crime..."

Is it Spring yet? ;)

THAT is THE perfect driving song. For some reason, I cannot listen to that song, and drive without the gas pedal mysteriously going down further towards the floor. :D

All I want for you my son... is to Beee satisfyyyyied...

Heck, and I thought it was just me that felt that way. I absolutely savor every moment I'm alone in mine is such situations...Thought about how much I enjoy that many times. I think that's how my user-name came about in fact...

I try to drive mine to work every chance I get. Most would probably say I only drive such a car for the attention. Realizing that, I intentionally park in the most deserted parking areas around the plant where I work. I love the car, hate knowing others think its just for the looks you get in it.

Kinda' reminds me of a Lynyrd Skynyrd song. (note the title above) Quite a good song to have playin' while cruisin' thru the back roads in fact...

Rockatansky:
'Red Barchetta" huh? I've probably heard it before but I can't place it. What are some of the words? Jog my memory....
I'll definitely have to listen to that on the radio.

Thats what its all about.. (most of it anyway)

close to 70K + the dealer markup for the first year. you will need a thick wallet to buy one. remember what the dealer markup was on the first year ZR-1s and ZO-6s? the 5K over that some dealers were asking for the C-6 will seem like peanuts. my wife worked the deal on the first ZR-1 they had at the dealership and it went for 20K over sticker. i will guess that some of the first ones will sell for 90K

$90,000 is a lot of bucks!

For that kind of money l would definitely pass, but l would then start looking for a C5 Z-06.

My buddy has a 94 ZR-1 that is plenty fast with over 400hp that would leave the new C6 in his rear view mirror.

It's not the hp but the gearing is more suited for Whoooosh!

Thanks GM.

i will pick one up the second year if they come with a auto trans and i am still on the right side of the green :D at my age i do not buy any green bananas

I disagree.

Everyone knew the Z06 was coming out. It was no secret, by any means. Therefore people who bought the '05 knew what they were getting into.

Now I would be mad if I had gotten an '04 GTO.......

The only color is Red!

Now with a red exterior and a red interior that says something.

Did you say you loved red?

Before l forget most of the late 300hp+ vettes are plenty fast enough for my needs. My wife goes crazy when l break 100mph, but my trusty dog just looks at the passing trees and doesn't say a thing.

Do you think my dog knows the difference between 80 and 100mph or how fast l get there. If l have to l tell her (my dog) a fib she just smiles.
If l lose a runm, l tell her l won and she smiles.

That's why a dog is man's best friend.

both my 02 and my 05 are red with a red interior. "all corvettes are red the rest are mistakes" :D

GM lies!

They tell us something and then it's changed or delayed.

But getting back to to answer, most people do not know what you and the rest of us on this forum are aware of.

How many people walk into showrooms and pay full sticker price for their cars, you would be surprised.

There is a big difference between the informed and uninformed.

My neighbor surprised me that he just picked up a new Boxster and was thrilled because he received a discount on it.

I didn't have the heart to tell him is that the reason he received a discount was because the new body Boxster is coming out as we speak.

He might not even care so you just have to smile and wish him the best with his new car.

The man knows his business!

You happen to be right about the red even though l had fewer vettes, two white ones, one forest green and now a Torch Red one.

My next one will be definitely red.

But the other colors look good too but not as sharp, if a Ferrari isn't red then it's not a Ferrari.

We are getting off the subject.
