I'm from the UK and say look at our car industry over the last 10 years,
yours will be the same soon. We gladly give tax breaks to Nissan to build factories in England to compete unfairly with our own car builders.

The Chinks will come into America and buy your car industry for peanuts, ship out all the panel presses and engine moulds to China and then sell their cheapo versions back to you. Sure, some of you will say that their quality is improving but I say they are good at sweet and sour chicken and knock off consumer goods... period.

For f*cks sake, when they made the bid for Hummer the first thing they said was they wanted to put a 4 cylinder diesel in the thing for fuel efficiency!;LOL

I think it is disgusting that we (not me though) buy GM made Chinese, Japanese and Korean vehicles built by people on the poverty line and depriving Americans of their jobs. We all want a bargain but at what price to our fellow man?

As for China, we are OWNED by them. They can shut down most of the west's economys, including ours, in a heart beat.

The Chinese government is programmed entirely differently to the west and they don't give a damn about us.
It's amazing how we are destroying ourselves. I can't help but think its to late for America to turn around. We need to get the Dems out of office with all their freebies and concentrate on building our manufacturing system again. I know that it tough to compete with the foreign market but tariff them like they tariff us, we the people make up the goverment our voices should be heard.

I agree! Manufacturing is what built most of the wealth in this country creating an extremely strong well paid middle class. Unfortunately we are being choked to death by this steaming pile of green global warming crap. We need to stop giving our companies and technology away to China, Japan etc etc.
We have enough knowledge and natural resources that we shouldn’t have to be dependent on any other foreign country.
Unfortunately we cant utilize any of it because manufacturing and energy are dirty therefore, we need to make communists who want to destroy us rich.

global warming????

one of the many things that i don't follow is : if they call it global warming what difference does it make where the warming comes from??

i don't think the goverment want to have a middle class anymore, they would like nothing more than to control everyone.

power and money seems to destroy everything

just my 2 cents

I think we are looking at this all wrong. We need to get a stimulus for Corvette, some Obama money, shovel ready, job creating, economy kick in the pants funds. The recipients would then be able to go to the dealership and use the government coupon and buy a Corvette. I no longer have to worry about my mortgage, putting gas in my car or the rest of the world hating me. A Corvette stimulus would be the ticket, so why not some free money. Yea baby, I want my stimulus!

Why don't you go play in the Edge. Folks there like to talk about opinions like yours.

Stinger396 stated, "It's amazing how we are destroying ourselves."

We can not help but do this "to ourselves," it is built into the economic system. Capitalism contains within itself the seeds of its own distruction. What we are seeing is known as advanced consumer captialism. The "markets" have no morals or loyalty to any one country. The only loyalty in capitalism is to the accumalation of capital (money).

As for the Democrats giving away the county, it was Republican deregulation that "stimulated" the trend we are talking about. Also, don't forget that the Obama financial policies are just the continuation of the Bush policy. It would have been too disruptive to drastically change that policy.

Anyway, whatever happens, at least we have our Corvettes!!! :W:W

I don't know, I kind of like it here. Or is it something I said, or perhaps something you won't tolerate. Amazing how some can say what they want but not let others have the same courtesy. Hope and Change... :boogie

I guess the Dem's only followed what was started but also gave more away with the NAFTA Deal. Yes we have our Vette's for now.......

Hi Guys n Gals

Well, I hope that Corvettes will continue to be made, but I Guess like all good things they will come to an end off production one day, So look after the ones that exist now for future generations to drive them selves mad, keeping them going... I love my 1977 L48 ...Here in NZ they just keep on getting more and more expensive .check out trademe.co.nz and you will see what I mean

Look after planet Earth... its the only place you can get a Corvette :beer

This thread is in a BG plant and Museum playpen. Why can't both right wingers and liberals slather your venom where those who want to talk about cars don't have to deal with it. This should be a place where we can talk cars and put the political rancor and bs that surrounds us aside - don't you think?

Unfortunately, when the government took over GM (and Chrysler) any major thing that happens there becomes political. When the companies were in the hands of their stock holders only the market controlled, now, the market force has been replaced by political decisions. You may wish to keep politics out of the discussion of GM but the camel has stuck his head, and most of his nasty body, in the tent. Before I could rely that even if this lay offs were made for the wrong economic decision it was nonpolitical (economics and market forces). There is no way you can tell me that it is that way now. GM has become an arm or part of the government, like Amtrak, Pennsylvania State Stores, Fanny Mae and Freddie and decisions will be made by politicians and community organizers. If you want good economic sense to come of it sorry it will never happen. Last, I respect your opinion and would do nothing to silence it, regardless of my political slant.

Too stimulate production and save jobs....it may be time for a Right Hand Drive Vette

Tough times call for a tighten of the belt and a rethink on the market of the product.
The Corvette is a classic American Icon, with a worldwide following....Australia toooooo.

Look, our Holden brand here in Australia has had several attempts and sent a few cars Stateside, they have left the down-under shores as left hand drive cars.
These are the GTO, the Elcamino concept, the Holden Stateman is also in negotiation to replace the cop cars as the Caprice....they have done this too keep production up and people employed....more the first, but the second is a given consequence of the first action.

The Vette needs to be a global icon and not be limited to certain markets.
We all know the history of the Corvette and what it stands for, it is about time it was sold as the supercar it is and was available in all corners of the globe.

It is hard for me to live in a coountry that the car of my dreams is not sold.
I am not a euro trash car guy, never will be....lookin for a 67 Impala and then another Vette later....while those are busy saving fuel and the planet, I look forward to all those fuel stocks pilling up and hopefully being worth nothing as the world's shift to eco-cars sends the market value of fuel down.

All aside, RHD Vettes could be built and shipped to those RHD countries. The ZR1 sells for over $250000 Aussie dollars, fifty of this is conversion to RHD. Same cost for conversion for a stock C6, over $140000 drive away here.....surley the manufacturer can do this cheaper?

I know HSV (www.hsv.com.au) trialled this scenario a few years back, but the cost was too great. They purchased two C5s for testing around the Holden proving grounds at Lang Lang in Melbourne.

If other supercar manufacturers can produce RHD versions of their cars, why can't Chevrolet (and therefore GM) given the lack of cash coming in and asian manufactures stealing sales.
Time to start using those global brands too sell cars, Vauxall, Holden....

The Vette needs to be RHD and available as all wheel drive, imagine cornering with that puppy!

;shrug

Cheers
Tony

Our government can't run itself, let alone a car company. Only thing worse than the reelected officals are those who voted for them! :puke

I'm still a newbie, so I'm slowly making my way through these threads, which is why this bump is a bit late. This thread is interesting; it's spun off into an interesting direction... it's always interesing to me to see people spew political venom! :mad :bash :puke

Whatever political beliefs one has, in my opinion referring to the Chinese as "The Chinks" is counter productive. Negative comments rarely have positive results, imo. Whatever point a person is trying to make may be diminished by that type of rhetoric, possibly even to the point of having the opposite effect, i.e. the opinion expressed is ignored just because it's expressed in such a negative way.

And as long as I'm giving you the business, just for grins I'll mention that I'm pretty sure they didn't make Corvettes back in 1897! :chuckle

There is a technique called compartmentalization.
What it means simply is that you take a valid argument and break it down into a little piece and pound the crap out of that piece losing sight of the big picture.
SO when we discuss how our wonderful govt is (doing us), we have our detractors say well Bush did this/that. BLAH BLAH>>>>>>. Then the argument becomes useless and you realize that you have become what Lenin called a useful idiot (look it up).
What I see is that we are systematically losing our industry base (including your dear Corvette factory) after being sold out buy whoever you want to name.

It is a slow motion coup.
We will soon be like Cuber. Get your dominoes ready.

This thread is one off-topic comment from closed. Take your rants where they belong...that would be the edge. This is the BG area, and we need to get back on topic. Exercise you freedom of speech in the appropriate venue.

I don't know about anyone else, but I think the subject matter would be OK, if opinions could be expressed without the ranting.

It probably would have been better if the thread had stayed focused on issues like GM not marketing the Corvette brand, production numbers, etc.

I probably shouldn't have bumped it, but I didn't like the one comment about the Chinese. I have a hard time keeping my mouth shut when I see things like that. :mad
