I'm going to replace my lifters since I have the engine apart. Can anyone make any good recommendations on where to buy that aren't too expense? I'm on a tight budget. Its for my 1990....

I just bought new cam and new lifters for 80 bucks![]()
The best bang for $$$$ roller lifters are the LS7 lifters Good for 7KYou should be able to find 16 GM roller lifters for around 130 bucks or the entire kit wih spider and retainers for about 100 more.
The stock roller lifter install kit can be had for $70

The lifters used in the Gen 2 V8 (LT1) in a 93 Z/28 camaro should go right into the engine in a 90 Vette, however, the camshaft may not interchange.
A post above suggests using LS7 lifters, however, Gen 3/4 V8 lifters may not interchange with those in a Gen 1 Small-Block.
If you are on a "tight budget," you may not need to replace lifters in your 90. Once you get the intake manifold off, remove the pushrods then pull each lifter and inspect it and its camshaft lobe. If all you see is normal wear and the lifter's roller "rolls" smothly, you may not need to replace them.
On the other hand, if you start pullling lifters and see signs of significant wear--such as worn rollers or cam lobes or even damaged lifters--consider carefully the idea of simply replacing the lifters as that may not solve the wear problem.
As for whether or not eBay item 120509235946 will fit your 90 L98, it might not so I'd get your engine apart, first. And...you probably don't need a new guide kit. What you may need are just the roller lifters.
Typically a "knock" is not the noise a lifter will make.
How many miles are on this engine?
Actually, the engine in that 90 still maintains a lot of the interchangeablility of the small-blocks of the "old days". Lifters from Gen 1, 1E and 2 SBV8s interchange but the "spiders" which retain them might not--not sure about that.
The LS7 roller lifters are a drop in replacement for the L98 ones.People are using them in perf builds because they are quality ,cheap and good for 7000 rpmI've been talking to people too and getting the correct lifters doesn't appear to be as easy as it seems so will be very careful! Its not like the old days where small block chevy was all interchangeable!
