...barely. I was expecting more, what do you all think?

The run: only got 1 run last night, but a good one. Humidity was relatively low, temp just below 80. Stock LS1 C5 M6 with street Kuhmo's was running consistent 13.1's one hour before my run.

60ft: 2.1s ; 1/8mi: 8.48s, 86.85mph ; 1/4mi: 12.95 s, 110.48 mph

This was much better than 5 runs last week, as I was careful to shift over 6000 rpm in 1-2 and 2-3. Also, my oil temp was only 148 and only 3 gallons gas in the tank (not by choice, out of time).

The car: 93 M6 vette, ported heads, 52mm TB, 214/224@050 cam,
(112LSA, 566 lift w/1.6rr s) SLP induction airfilter, TB bypass.

I'd guess from this time about 305rwhp. My old dyno run, before the heads, cam, TB bypass, and SLP, was 277 rwhp. I was thinking this package should take me to 325-330 rwhp. So this seems way short.

Come down to Capitol and let me try it - might be able to get another 10th or so out of it unless you've improved your shifting...

Congrats on the 12's, man... next you'll be wanting a new clutch, I think? :)

You should leave that spare tire at home, it probably weighs 50 pounds or so and let a little pressure out of the tires.

Well with your MPH you could get better ET's if you get the 60ft down.

I run 110 MPH in the 1/4 all day long in my vette, but my best ET was 12.68 and that was on a 2.0 60'

I did have on 1.89 60 ft but let off since we were bracket racing

Tire pressure: I did let it out, ran 25psi in rear.

Tire: well, yes that would help, but the point is: shouldn't this car run faster with these mods and an average, experienced driver?

Rich,
I think the shift time was always good! You had a good launch that night, and cooler air (nice it was later). I will come to Capital when it stops raining on Fridays.

Sothpaw, do you have a full list of mods on your car somewhere, i did a quick search, but i couldn't find one... I can't remember a few key specs. I think you had Ed Wright make a chip for you? i also can't remember what exhaust you are running, and if you have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator etc.

LT193,

Opps, I forgot the Ed Wright chip in my list in the initial post--that was supposed to be all inclusive. Of course, 1.6 rr's are on the car also.

You don't remember the exhaust because it is all stock. Headers, cats, mufflers, resonators. No AFPR.

Andy, congrats on breaking into the 12's. I'm sure w/ alittle tweaking and some more practice you can improve some on that. Maybe try some exhaust mods. JMHO. Good luck, Guy

I think doing the exhaust would be pretty good. Maybe 1/10 with all those mods you've done?

The MPH tells the story. You're car is making alot of power.

Don't worry about the ET, as that can change with your launch, track prep, 60', and shifting. Be happy you trapped 110MPH.

A stock LT-1 will trap around 104mph, so you picked up about 6MPH which means about 50-60HP (flywheel).

Be happy.

BTW; I was trapping ~110-111mph in my Camaro back when I was running the Hot Cam in the factory LT-1, and it was putting down about 330rwhp.

Dave,

With a trap speed of 110, the time should be about ~12.6 with good conditions?

You need real tires, some work on the launch and practice on the shifts. There's another 3-4 tenths left in the car without getting jiggy with it.

Pull the front sway bar end links the next time out (just don't forget to put them back in before driving home!), that'll catch you a tenth right there.

CYa!

Dave,
330 rwhp was what I expected, but I think the Camaro may be heavier, so that would be less hp for me. Slightly. You must have had a lot more in that than a hot cam, no?

sweet Andy! i'm glad it's starting to pay off for you! :upthumbs

why do you lower the rear tire pressure? i know it helps on launches but you wouldn't do that at the street do you?

i just cant understand why people do that kind of stuff and like what mako said. you wouldn't run the car like that on the street so why the track?

i know your going for best ET and can somewhat understand the tire pressure BUT it won't make that much of a difference if you can launch it good.

is it spinning off the line? bogging? you can always go with a set of BFG DR's for around 150 a tire or so. that would drop your 60's 3-4 tenths easily. in your case, if you launched it perfectly 5-6 tenths possibly. on DR's you could probably hit mid 1.6's to 1.7's and it would be alot more easy to launch the car and you retain wet weather handling for the most part.

BTW i know 2 guys from www.thirdgen.org forums that have C4's and they been trying to get me to come up there. they both run 13 flat or so. 1 an 89 and the other a 90 which has NOS hooked to it with a small 75 shot i think. i think i will on a friday night if you and Rich are interested!?!?! if so i'll tell them guys and maybe we can get a good vette showing up there :D

i'd have to borrow Rich's 16's till i got some tires (atleast 2 new ones for now) if we do it before a month.

BTW Rich since i'm on this subject, think we can do a switch tues night? if so that way i can just use them for a few weeks and wet sand down my other rims and repolish them. they will look 10 times better although they look pretty good as is. i'd just like to do it cause it would make it look better and last year i sorta screwed up and sprayed some wheel cleaner for clear coats not knowing it was polished and hazed the fronts up. i polished them out but upon close inspection you can see where the haze was thats why i want to wet sand them down with some super fine grit.

Mad-mic,
I know that I am not the Rich in your post, but where were you going next Friday night? Cecil?

yes :) *or* we could goto capital since it's closer. i was just suggesting cecil cause it's a much better track and a few other vette friends that live over the line in deleware go there. i think andy lives up by there also.

Sothpaw:

I had shorty headers, AFR heads, and the usual bolt-ons along with tuning from MustGoFaster racing. (it was a mail order tune).

I also know of a guy in Orlando that was running the hot cam in an auto (he had all the bolt ons also) and was running 110MPH.

Before i got the tuning my car ran about 107-108, but once I got it tuned it typically ran 110-111. Of course, because of crappy launches my car ran anywhere from 13.4 to 13.01. My 60' times were on the order of 2.1-2.2. But it always ran 110-111MPH.

For every tenth you can knock off your 60' time, it's worth about 1.5-2 tenths at the top providing you don't miss a gear or something. I've seen cars run 12.5 at 106 because the didn't have but about 300 horsepower, but they launched to a 1.6 60' time. I've also see my a friend of mine run 14.5 @ 112 in a ZR-1 because he can't launch for crap. SO if you're time is crappy, blame yourself. If your MPH is low, blame your car. :)

When I ended up putting a 6psi supercharger on it (with the same hot cam setup) I was running 12.6-12.7 at around 115MPH.
It is because I was getting the same 2.1-2.2 60's because I always ran on street tires. Sure, if I put clicks on it and dropped the clutch at 4K, it would have hooked great and probably ran a 12.0 or something, but I didn't want to risk breaking it. (which I did anyway... :( )

So when you're looking at 1/4 mile passes to judge power improvements on your car, you should look at the MPH, because that will be consistent, no matter how badly you screw up your takeoff.

-Dave C.

PS: this is obviously my personal opinion, but getting aftermarket heads is really worth diddle-squat. The LT-1 heads are really good for a street car (as long as your casting is normal). When I put the AFR's on, my MPH went up by .....a half! Yep, I got 0.5MPH faster.

Mad-mic, Tuesday might work. It'd be better if you could just come pick them up and take them home to install, because I'm not sure how much time I'll have that evening. I will be here, though, for you to stop by.

Cecil on Wednesday might be good; depends on weather (obviously) and what my schedule is.

Also, got to drive Sothpaw's modded car yesterday. Any issues with his times are his own &*(^(*^ fault because the CAR is FAST!!! I have no idea where the redline is any longer (it's past the top of the tach) but the car never seems to stop pulling. Ever. It's not quite Shelby Cobra fast (ie, can't take a $5 bill off the dash under power) but it feels similar to the '01 Z06 I drove a couple months back. It's too quiet, though. Needs a good exhaust.
