The ZR-1 has Megadeath and Metallica written all over it. But needs a little help in the sound system department. I notice that on alot of the high end sports cars. Great driving performance, but the sound systems are kinda lacking. You know, for those times when I can't drive 178mph. I'll keep it stock and just add another 150watt amp to it and that should do the trick. Nothing crazy. No rapp will ever circulate through those speakers. Rock, Metal and Jazz only.

I have a feeling they were not so atrocious when new, at least not compared to what was in most cars in 1990. Getting the Bose speakers rebuilt certainly helps, though even at that the sound is not going to win any awards. But it's not too bad.

I've had my ZR-1 for 8 years, turned my stereo on 1 time, it worked fine. I've never had a reason to turn it on since.

That's true. I definetely didn't buy it for the sound system thats for sure. King of the hill was the motivation. Our cars are practically twins. We both have the same rims. The only difference is, a back tinted window and forced air, thats it. I figure its just a matter of time before the cops give me a hard time over no front license plate over the forced air.

Yes the stereos in these cars are junk..I just went through the hassle of fixing the controller and all 4 amps but the CD doesnt work and not sure I want to fix it.Id rather replace everything over the winter.A nice subtle box-enclosure in the rear for the amp.Everything will be done without cutting a single factory wire or drilling a single hole in the car.Ive got to have tunes in my cars. The enclosure for the back of the car wont obstruct top storage in the car.

Yeah, Everything works in my car. In fact the cd player & tape deck work great. The left side speaker down below the door is out so that will make a difference. But you have to remove the kick panel to get to it. And to remove the kick panel it looks like you have to remove the seat so you can get a screw driver in there. Also A friend of mine that used to own a black 91 zr1 said the air conditioners in these cars never worked that good. He was shocked to feel how cold mine blows. Living in Texas you have to have A/C in the summer. Rolling down your windows just won't cut it. You will burn up and your clothes will be soaked with sweat. When I lived in San Jose Ca, you can get away with out A/C but not here. It's like living in the desert with a jungle atmosphere. Averege temp in the summer is 102 degrees and 80% humidity. Its the humidity thats bad.

I've always overlooked the sound system from the factory since my first car. Chevrolet improved, but it was never a high point for me. I used to outrageously upgrade the sound system into the nineties ...then I just left things factory ...even if it stopped working altogether.

Currently, I don't even turn it on ...I kind of miss listening to NPR, but the vette speaks volumes for itself.

At stoplights with the windows down, I have to listen to Super Duty diesels, slab cracking gangster wannabes with mofo tuned subs, the cowboy goat-yodeling from pickup trucks and people begging for a buck ...then, the light changes and I literally leave it all behind me. Sonically as well.

The last time I tried to leave everything behind at the light I got popped by a texas state trooper. Actually a funny story. I usually only drive the ZR-1 on the weekends. But occasionally I'll drive it to work on a friday. Well I was on my way home and apparently I had a state trooper behind me at the light in a new hemi R/T charger that I didn't see a few seconds earlier. They seem to come out of nowhere sometimes. Anyway when the light turned green I floored it. Got a little side ways then hooked up for 2nd and 3rd gear scratch 7500rpm's all the way right in front of that trooper sitting behind me with his lights already on. Made it to the next light. When it turned green I made it a block before I looked in my rear view mirror saw him comming up behind me. So I pull over. He asked me if I was in a hurry. I said no, just having a little fun. So he checks my licsence ect. Comes back and say's so this is a 90? Said yep. And he said this thing is freaken fast. He said when you bolted from the light I had that patrol car floored and you just vanished out of site. I didn't think I was going to catch up with you but when I came around the corner there you were just sitting at the red light just minding your own biusiness. He just wrote me a ticket for 15mph above the speed limit. I was lucky. He could have done allot worse to me if he wanted to.

The sill plate comes off to get to the speaker.I did this a few months ago.The seat stays in the car but the small trim piece that runs into the sill plate must come off.
