Grounding Fans!

I know that I posted a question on how to ground the fans on my 90... and I can't find the thread any longer, even when I go to my control panel and click on my own list subscriptions, nor can I find it through searching! Oh well, so here is the question again now that it is getting hot. I want to ground my fans to stay on all the time on the 90, but the wiring is different than the 84 I had. I *think* I recall someone telling me the fan switches are not in the block any more, and are in the radiator now? Is that true? I also think someone told me it isn't as simple any longer; in other words I can't just ground them to the block. That worked on the 84. Its just too damn hot here in Southern Arizona and I want them on so don't try and talk me out of it. Any advice on how would be much appreciated!!

Mid-America makes a really great and cheap little kit to do this, and it comes with excellent instructions with illustrations by year.

I have a 90 and I installed a switch under the hood. I don't remember which color wire it was but I just grounded it through the switch so I can turn it off when I want. The relays have a hot wire to them which is red I think. What you do is wire into the ground side of the contactor coil.If you can't find the wire color on I can take a look for you. Each fan on the 90 has a contactor on the drivers side of the radiator. There is no switch in the radiator.

Yes, I'm once again now going to attempt this. I attempted it once and *thought* I popped my fusible link but thankfully I just overlooked that I popped my fuse. I don't want to install that switch as I want them to run all the time... or at least to where I can make them run all the time. Can you tell me what you mean here by the "contactor coil"? I know where the two relays are and know which wire does what... I just can't seem to figure out where and what to actually ground. I did ground one thing but it makes them run all the time regardless of whether the ignition is on or not and, of course, that isn't good. Any advise?

The contactor coil is part of the relay. To make the relay work, the contactor coil, which is an electromagnet, is grounded. This closes the main contacts in the relay. This way, the high current is not carried by the switch. Hope this helps.

The relays on a 1990 L98 are on the drivers side of the radiator. There is a red wire goes to each relay which is always hot. Each has a PNK/BLK wire going to each which is hot when key is on. Each has a BLU/BLK (blue with Black stripe), this is the ground wire. Connect a wire to these two wires and attatch to the ground connection on the frame next to the radiator this will make the fans run at all times when the key is on.
I would pick up a double pole single throw switch and run through that so you can easily turn them off. Or two single pole singel throw switches.

Hope this is clear.
If not pm me with your email and I will make a copy of the wiring diagram with the wires marked and email it to you.
