Half Shafts

Thank you John and Bob for the replies. It's such as nice day here I couldn't stand looking at the car on the jackstands so I told my wife to grab her cell phone and go for a ride with me. No problems.

I'm glad to hear it's normal for that "bump", just a little odd that it didn't happen before. I thought for a minute the cotter pin on the axle nut was hitting the U joint, it comes awfully close when it's hanging, but it just clears.

Yeah I agree about the support for the flange, I'm sure this guy didn't use one. When I dropped them off I did happen to ask him if the ears needed to be supported, "nawww, no problem!" So this is how you learn I guess.

I'll try to keep the wheels on the ground John to avoid any "bumps" in the air:( !!

Thanks a bunch
Bill

Thanks Twinray! Hey how did the front end job work out that you did?

I wasen't as brave as you, I had the shop put in my front springs, ball joints, control valve etc. I'm not real happy with the handling though, it's way too stiff for me. I liked it better before they worked on it.

Hi Bill,
Very satisfied with everything. My '69 was stiff before and just as stiff now. Handles much better than my '67 (which has the original springs and rubber C/A bushings that I did 14 yrs ago -in those 14 yrs., it has way less than 10K miles on it). The idler arm that I put in a couple yrs back was the cause of my stiff steering and the steering wheel failure to return. After the alignment was done, I told the mechanic of the issue. He knew of it from the yr. before. While I didn't like the idea, he proceded to whack the idler arm with a hammer. He said all he did was simulate a few bad potholes. TMALSS, the wheel now now returns much better. For the driving I do with the car, I would never have broken in the Moog Heavy Duty idler arm-the one with 2 grease fittings. For a non-daily driver, you might be better off with one of the "standard" idler arms. The Elgin springs are fine - proved by 2 laps at the Watkins Glen track in September. I plan to do the trailing arm bushings over the winter so the rear tow can be aligned properly. They never have been done and no one (can't blaim them) wants to touch the shim adjustment.
Regards, Fred
