Hi all, Here's a really dumb one. When washing the Vette, water collects in the forward corners of the rear hatch, between the seal and body. Should I drill a hole for drainage, or would that cause other problems ? Thanks. Roger. :w

Mid America, a Corvette Action Center Supporting Vendor, sells a product for just such a modification...

C4 Corvette Rear Window Drain Kit 1984-1996 Coupe - Mid America Motorworks

From Mid America's web page...

1984-96 Coupe Corvette Rear Window Drain Kit

. Eliminate leaking or splashing water that collects in rear window area!
. 15 minute installation!
. Alloy and ABS construction to prevent corrosion!
Say good-bye to exterior streaking and soggy interiors due to water collection in the corners of your 1984-96 Corvette's rear window. When installed, these tubes allow the water to drain, preventing rust and damage to internal surfaces. Minor drilling required (hidden by weatherstrip).
Note: Drain tubing is Black or Clear depending on manufacturer.

Hope that helps...

JESUS H! DONT DO IT!!!!!!! :W

STUPIDEST THING I EVER DID was put that Mid America kit in!

Seriously....it caused a stress crack in the seam to develop FROM that corner....even after it was repaired it still wasnt 100% again and the paint has since cracked. There is a TSB on early 84's for that seam crack problem that mentions it was reinforced in later c4's. But even with the added reinforcement its just asking for trouble!!!:w

Take a spin in the car try to run 100 to 120 mph for 10 minutes and it will dry your car. If that fails increase the speed and try again.

Thanks CorvetteArchives,oz and 89blackvette, Those were exactly the problems I feared. I'm normally doing between 110 and 120 mph, when I'm washing it, perhaps that's half the problem ! Ithink I'll try extra sealing in those areas. Roger.
