The ol Corvette needs to go in for the annual oil change and state inspection. And I decided to upgrade to a K&N stock air filter. Has anyone used one of these filters, and how did it work out for you ? Thank you ! :)

I use them, but be careful about re-oiling. Too much oil will cause MAF problems.

I recently installed one in mine and it is working out fine. I also did the Z06 lid mod; used a dremmel to make the opening much larger. :thumb

Yep, I also use one with no problems. As was said, be careful with the re-oiling!!

Oil. . .

Thank you for the input. I remember from the past someone telling me to careful with the cleaning and re-oiling kit, as too much oil will get sucked back and coat the MAF sensor. But I was thinking that the new K&N filter comes in a clean sealed plastic bag and since it's good for 50.000 miles, I doubt I'll ever get to the point of having to clean and re-oil it.

A friend who has one in his corvette said that once you have cleaned it with soap and water, and let it dry, just give it a light spray of the oil on the filter material and let it sit on a piece of old newspaper for awhile and see if any oil comes out, if not then put it back in button it up. :w

I used one the day I picked up my C5 from the NCM.
I had 2 for my C4 and brought 1 with me and put it in , in the parking lot ( yes , they are the same part )

Actually the K&N are good forever, if you take care cleaning them, BUT they will need cleaning a lot more often than 50K miles under many circumstances. Mine really needs cleaning before 25K miles, and when I lived in AZ, it was every 10K miles.

Exactly, I live in AZ. and clean mine every 10k as we have higher particulates in the air. It's well worth the extra cleaner and oil cost to keep it clean.

Well since I injured myself at work three years ago, my mechanical skills have been tapered off significantly, but this will be something I have to learn to do. Thanks for the information. I don't put more than 3000 miles on a year. :w

K&N filter and parts ?

I got the filter today in the mail. It is intact and not damaged, but it came with a gasket sort of thing, Do you know what the gasket is for ?

Ostensibly, the gasket is necessary to create a proper seal inside the air box; apparently, you're supposed to "semi-permanently" install the gasket inside the air box.

I have one of these K & N filters waiting to go into mine when the current disposable, paper filter is spent, and have been pondering how to get the gasket inside the air box without removing the whole air box assembly. I've tried test-fitting the air filter (without gasket) into the air box, and it seems to be a good fit already; I've pulled out a ruler, and the K & N filter appears to be the same dimensions as the paper filter I already have. So all of that, in turn, has led me to wondered whether the K & N gasket is really all that necessary...

Have read that the KN filter doesn't trap as much dirt as the paper filter

For about $12 I am sticking with the paper filter. If you want to go whole hog ditch the OEM and buy a sexy cone shaped filter for $150.
