Driving back from school today I had the windows up (it was cold), as a result I was able to hear a chattering noise, I think its the hatch.

Is there a simple way to tighten the hatch somehow? What goes wrong that a hatch begins to rattle.

thanks,

-chris

I'd try some light silicone lube on the rubbers where the glass touches; windows and hatch, first. Also, ensure your top is securely fitted. It can also rattle against the windscreen frame.

You may want to check the rear hatch weather striping. My 84 is very noisy, which is why I bought a new one and will install it when the weather warms up.

Replacing the weather striping fixed the squeaking from my hatch.

this sounds hopefull then, thanks guys. My weather striping back there is in bad shape. Ill go see about replacing it.

thanks,

You might want to also check out the hide-what-you-got shade. Mine sounds like a baby rattle back there. (Not baby rattler) :L

I'll trade your cold for ours in Maryland today. High was 18 F with a wind chil of 1 or so. Everything including the driver rattles in the morning.

yeah, heh.. the weather is pretty nice down here. Thank god though, my heater core died on me about a month and half ago.

The trim around the lock and the hatch is all messed up, the hide what you got cover is ussually used, though it just came to mind the noise may have started since i stopped using it... humm.. ill check this out.

My 93 plastic trim in the rear hatch area loosens up every once in a while. I used a little thread lock, the blue stuff (not as aggressive as the red loc tite) and the screws, so far have not loosened. Now....if I could just do something about the loose nut behind the wheel! :eyerole

You also might want to inspect your latch assy......if the hard plastic covering is worn through, the metal to metal contact might be responsible for the clacking noise when you hit bumps in the road. I solved this problem by getting a used latch assy from Dino's Corvette Salvage, very inexpensive at about $15. Good luck!

Excellent, I will also check my latch assy. I know my weather striping is shot which is why I bought a new one.
