The weatherstripping that goes across the top of the hatch has come loose. Should it be glued in and if so, where should the adhesive be placed?

I have had the same problem with my 95. The way it looks, the previous owner tried to glue it but it didn't work too well. I am looking for this answer mysef, although I think the answer is going to be "Replace it".

Rear hatch weatherstrip is applyed with just a friction fit. There is a replacement for the rear hatch. I have not ordered it so I do not know the quality (I doubt if its GM) but here is a link...its only 99.95

I ordered the entire kit from I believe Mid America or Corvette Central, I don't recall at the moment. The rear hatch is indeed a friction fit, however it uses some sort of grease as well. The non-GM part is going to tear at the lower front corners in a very short period of time though. I highly recommend if you replace it, get an OEM seal.
I can say, the door seals are good, the halo seal is hollow and collapses easily when shutting the doors, therefore allowing easy water penetration with little pressure behind it (a garden hose will cause it to leak)
Haven't installed the windshield seal, so I can't say anything about that one.

I just ordered the hatch weatherstripping for my 96LT1. Is it installed using a weatherstip adhesive only? There does not appear to be a channel to install it in.... I will figure it out once it arrives, but I was just wondering. Thanks.

Its no so much an adhesive as it is a grease. The weatherstripping has the channel in it which just pushes over the body. Fairly easy installation. Get a second person to support your hatch while you disconnect the hatch struts, then use a wooden pole or similar item to support the hatch while you install the weatherstripping.

I just went out and check my hatch weather stripping and it appears that the soft rubber gasket which contacts the window was simply glued to a hard rubber piece which I assume slips off. My gasket is in pretty bad shape (torn, etc) and probably needs to be replaced. Is replacing this something the average Saturday mechanic can tackle, or should I leave this to the pros?

It is so simple, even a slightly incompetant non-mechanic can do it...you could even trust it to a teenager its so simple!:L
The rubber part that contacts the window is glued to the rest of the weather stripping "assembly" The hard plastic piece just pops right off of the car. The new weather stripping "assembly" comes as a whole unit. Including disconnecting the hatch struts, it took me about 10 minutes to change out the weatherstripping. A second set of hands to support the hatch is a big help. Other than that a flat tip screw driver will release the struts at the window mount.

It is a pretty simple job. The hardest part of it was putting the clips back in that hold the hatch supports. It does help to have two people.

hi, i have noticed that my 90 has shrunk around the forward hatch and now has a space. i will be replacing it soon. i have found a gadget that is recommended that will help to drain the channel. drill a hole on each side and insert an eye with a hose attached. drains the water out of the channel and inside the fender area.

Be sure to read the instructions carefully before you start. If I recall there are two layers of glass to be drilled before inserting the drain hoses.
