When you replace the head gaskets on a 94 LT-1 do you have to retorgue them at a later date.

I've never heard of having to re-torque the head bolts. They should be progressively torqued in a circular pattern from the center of the head. When I say progressively I mean stepped. If the torque rating is say 50 ft lbs I would torque all the bolts to 30 then next torque all bolts to 40 then step up to 50.

Hope this helps

We did heads on an old suburban of my ex-roommates and his father (an old school mechanic) said it is good measure to retorque the headbolts after 750-1000 miles. He was saying that after the vehicle is done "breaking in" they can loosen slightly.
Is this accurate? I have no idea. But we did it anyway.
He sold the suburban a month later. This was 2 years ago and I still see the vehicle being driven around. So who knows. Could be an old wives tale.

certain head gaskets do NOT need retorquing, check with the gasket manufacture

ARP suggests, in addition to the stepped torquing, that you loosen and re-torque them two more times. Not sure if this is true for other brands, but that's what they say. That way they're already stretched and won't stretch any more while breaking in - so you wouldn't need to retighten later.

I have since then been in contact with Chevrolet and I am having it checked out at a dealership. I had spent all toll $3600.00 to have the the overheating problem which was the out set of all this and I am back where I had started. They think I have a valid argument and are willing to work with me.
